About Greta

Pit Bull / Boxer
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Greta is a very beloved family dog. She has been with our family for 7 years-- she'll be 8 years old this fall. Greta is: - extremely good with people - she's never met a person she didn't like and she wins over everyone she meets. Definitely *not* a guard dog - she's going to welcome in anyone who comes by. - housetrained - not a barker (when we let her out in the yard, she will bark once to come back in. In 7 years, she's barked in the house two times and it surprised us both times!) - not a counter-surfer - a lover of crunchy vegetable scraps when you cook - not at all anxious (about thunderstorms, etc. - she doesn't even notice) - not a chewer or a destroyer-- you can leave her out at home with no issues - crate trained if you want her to be (but again-- not necessary) - treat motivated - happy to stay inside and nap most of the day - good with basic commands (sit, stay, down, leash walking) - a fan of air-conditioning. She is definitely an inside dog. - trained not to go on furniture, but if you'd let her (I may have had a few weak moments...), she'd *love* to snuggle up next to/on top of you on a bed or couch Greta is 99% the perfect dog. Her major drawback: she's animal-reactive. Specifically, she's aggressive with other dogs. She has twice gotten out of our yard (because a gate was left open due to human error-- not because she's an escape artist) and gotten in fights with other dogs. Unfortunately, my husband does not believe we can control this risk because there is a lot of traffic from non-family members in and out of our yard and we live in an urban neighborhood. I don't agree-- but I've (very tearfully) lost this fight. With sensible controls in place (like a locked gate), she will be a perfect pet. She doesn't try to get out-- she's not one to rush out of the front door or to dig under or jump over a fence. Keep your yard secure or have her on a leash and the risk is controlled. Greta has grown up with my two teenagers, who would be thrilled to pet sit if you ever need backup during travel. She's about 45 lbs, healthy, short hair that hardly sheds. I love, love, love this dog and know she will make someone extremely happy (even as our hearts break to give her up). We require a vet reference and a home check.
