Hey y'all! I'm Paper, but I also respond to Papes, Paper Butt, Paper Face, and Princess Paper! I'm 5 years old and was born on April 20th in Austin, Texas. I am currently looking for a new home, so I would love to tell you about myself! My favorite things in the world are going for long walks with my dad (I'm a great runner!), tearing up my toys (I'm pretty low maintenance - an old t-shirt is my favorite toy!), rides in the passenger seat of a car with the windows open, and snuggling up at the foot of the bed (or in my dad's lap when he's trying to work!). I have also recently discovered my passion for photo shoots and wildflowers - you can see from my pictures that I'm a natural in front of the camera! I am very patient when my dad likes to sleep in - I can wait all morning for my breakfast and my walk as long as we're snuggling! I am also a great listener - when my dad says 'Wait', I know he means it so I don't touch my food or toys until I'm allowed. I have had a couple of struggles in my young age, but I am trying my best to overcome my challenges and be the best girl I can be! People who have taken the time to get to know me love me and know that I would never do anything to intentionally hurt or scare anyone that I love! I do require some patience when getting to know me because not everyone has been so gentle. I had a pretty bad scare at the dog park when I was just a puppy - a dog who was bigger than me got pretty dominant over a toy that I was trying to play with (I didn't know it was his!), and he attacked me. Little did he know, I am a very tough girl, and I stood my ground with him. They said I won and did some damage to the other guy, but I was just trying to defend myself! Unfortunately, it wound up being pretty scary for our humans, and it has stuck with me and my dad ever since. Since then, I have been very nervous when meeting new people/dogs, and that nervousness can come out as aggression. With love and patience, and someone who understands my background, I will calm down and love getting to know new people! When my dad arranged for a new dog-sitter/walker to start coming by, I cowered in my chair for a little bit. But once I realized that she was not there to hurt me and she was willing to spend some time letting me feel comfortable, I fell in love with her and now I always look forward to her visits! (see the picture of me smiling at her on my chair after 5 minutes of meeting her!) This comes to why I need a new home. My dad has been a great dad and my best friend for 5 years, but I am so excited that he has worked hard to reach his dream job! When we first met, he was living and working in Austin year-round, so we got to spend every day together! Since then, he has reached the level in his career that he now has to travel for many months out of the year, so we do not get to spend as much time together. Up until now, my dad's roommate has been able to hang out with me and take me on walks while my dad is out of town, but now he is moving, too, so I need to find somewhere a little more stable. I have lived in an apartment my whole life and have done well with daily walks, but I would love to find a home with a backyard for me to be able to run around! My dad has recently been boarding and training me at K9 Mastery with Christie Miller, and Christie has said that I have made great progress! During my training, I get to go to Home Depot and other public places to meet strangers and be reminded that people are nice and are not trying to hurt me! She has also gotten me more socialized with other dogs! Since my fight at the dog park, I have not been able to meet other dogs because I get too scared and think that I have to show them who's boss (usually not in a very nice way). But Christie is teaching me that other dogs are nice too, and I am getting more comfortable being around other pup friends! My dad does a great job with keeping up with my training while he is home - I am great on my leash and am very responsive to my commands! My dad is still nervous when trying to introduce my to new people or dogs since we both had our confidence shaken up early on, so I would do really well with someone who has some experience with socializing dogs. For now, I would do best in a home by myself without any canine, feline, or human siblings. I need to feel safe and comfortable with my new human before trying to be happy with another dog, and I have never been around cats so I don't know how I would feel about them, but there's a good chance I would let my dog instincts take over. Because I am nervous, having any little humans around me wouldn't be a good idea until I am really settled into my new home. Despite my quirks and idiosyncrasies , I have a bunch of great qualities! If you want to know more about how great of a girl I am please email my Dad! He has unfortunately ran out of space :( But he loves to brag about me whenever he gets the chance :) -Paper
