About Saffron

Saffron is a 2 year-old, female, English Setter/English Pointer. She weighs about 60 pounds, but at heart, she is still a puppy. Saffron loves to chase shadows in the yard, go for long walks and snuggle on the couch with her family. Saffron is full of energy and curiosity and therefore needs a family who can provide her with safe, stimulating exercise and also consistent routine and supervision. Saffron is excellent on walks and will make a great walking partner. She will do best in a fenced yard that gives her room to run, and with a family that has time to spend with her. Saffron is house-trained, crate-trained and leash-trained. She has a history of chewing and eating small items that are left out, such as socks or trash, and therefore needs a home where she won't have access to inappropriate items. Saffron also needs to be crated when left alone or when she can't be supervised. For these reasons, she needs a home without small children. Saffron gets along well with other dogs, and will do best with confident dogs that she can trust and follow their good example. She would also be okay as an only dog, as long as her family has lots of time to spend with her. Saffron has a high prey drive, and will chase cats and other small animals, so she should always be leashed and supervised around pets other than dogs. Saffron is sweet, smart and sensitive. She has learned all of her basic commands and would benefit from a family that wants to keep working on her obedience training. She has worked with professional trainers that described her willingness to please and learn as 'phenomenal'. Saffron is definitely a 'velcro' dog that wants to be right next to her people and she thrives on affection and attention. She will do best in a home that allows furniture privileges, but also sets sensible boundaries and consistent rules. Saffron is a typical Setter/Pointer in that she is very sensitive to harsh discipline and corrections and responds best to positive reinforcement and consistent expectations in her training. She is not a candidate for hunting. Saffron is spayed, micro-chipped, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative. She is in a foster home in New Braunfels, TX.
