About AFTON - $200

Adoption Fee: 200
German Shepherd / Foxhound
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

AFTON was saved with her mum and 6 siblings from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. She is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed heartworm and tick disease tested negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 1 February 2018 Her mum is a 26 pound tri-colour hound type dog, but we have no idea what breed their father is. It is up to you to look at her pictures and decide what breed you think she looks like. AFTON was with a foster family in Texas for a month and then along with her mother and siblings was transferred up to the rescue in Sebec in May 2018. AFTON is the biggest of her siblings and has grown up around a lot of dogs and so is very dog socialized, she is submissive with more alpha dogs, but gets along with all the dogs she has met and lived with. She is shy, but friendly with humans she just needs a little time to warm up. She has never shown any kind of aggression towards other dogs, humans, over food, toys or treats. She has not had any kind of training since being here, but she is very responsive to day to day instructions. She does use the dog door to go in and out and play and do her business, but she will not know to let you know she wants to go out, so some accidents should be expected during her transition time. She is a playful happy girl who has already missed out on so much not having a family during her puppy months. She is very sweet and very affectionate when she has accepted you are ok. She has had blood taken for her heartworm and tick disease test and she was no problem at all. She needs an active family and one that will keep her mind stimulated and challenged. Lots of hikes and adventures, training and other fun, active, stimulating activities would be perfect for this girl. She is going to need a family that has the time and patience and understanding that training is an integral part of owning a dog and commit to a routine, where she can learn new rules, boundaries, expectations. We do not have cats or livestock at the rescue so we cannot say how she would be around them. %BD'%BD%BDWe do not recommend dog parks especially with him being so young for several months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. %BD'%BD%BDShe is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue and has a reduced adoption fee due to the time she has been here of US $200 Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
