About COCO

Adoption Fee: $550
German Shepherd / Foxhound
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Female

COCO was saved with her mum and 6 siblings from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. She is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 1 February 2018 and as of 18th May weighed 14.2 pounds. Her mum is a 26 pound tri-colour hound type dog, but we have no idea what breed their father is, so we are really not able to say what size she will grow to. It is up to you to look at her pictures and decide what breed you think she looks like. COCO has been at a foster home and then the rescue with her 6 siblings and her mum since for 6 weeks and has spent that time amongst a lot of dogs giving him excellent dog social skills and an understanding for behaviour among other dogs. She is a puppy and so requires a lot of work and time. When she gets around 5 months old and starts teething, she will be chewing anything and everything. She will need basic training and guidance as she grows. Since she is used to being around a lot of dogs, we really prefer that she be adopted to a family who either wants to adopt another puppy or dog, who already has another dog, or who can provide a lot of socialization for her with other dogs. She is going to be scared and lonely and will be missing her pack family. She needs an active family and one that will keep her mind stimulated and challenged. Lots of hikes and adventures, training tricks, or agility, dock diving or other fun, active, stimulating activities would be perfect for this girl. We do not have cats at the rescue so we cannot say how she would be around them. She is great with humans and children. %BD'%BD%BDWe do not recommend dog parks especially with him being so young for several months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. %BD'%BD%BDShe is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue and her adoption fee is US $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. COCO is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
