Name: Blackjack aka Jake aka Benjamin Buttons Age: 16 Sex: Male (confirmed neutered) Breed: Maltese/Shitzu mix - 14.5 lbs. Location: Melbourne, FL Vet Info: Blackjack is confirmed neutered and up to date on his vaccinations with the exception of distemper (too old to have the vaccination anymore). He is HW negative, also on preventative and has cataracts. Owner Info: Blackjack was with his 'Dad' for 15 year until his death a year ago. His 'Mom' passed away five years ago. He was 'a wonderful, loving, and very protective companion to her. When she passed away five years ago, Jack began to get a bit more aggressive. I think he really just missed his 'mom' and his 'dad' did not give him the attention that she did. When Blackjack was younger he was very 'possessive' of his owners but has mellowed out with age. You just need to stay away from his face. He has to be muzzled to be groomed. He has also recently attempted to bite a woman.' Blackjack is an indoor dog with the run of the house, he is not housebroken. Blackjack is leash trained and enjoys walks but ' He used to be quite the roamer and fast but old age has slowed him down.' Blackjack is not food aggressive. Blackjack is good with men, women and teenagers but family has concerns about him being around younger children. Blackjack has never had any experience being around cats. It is unclear how Blackjack would be around other dogs, his experience so far has been only with one more aggressive dog. Blackjack has cataracts which it is believed is causing total blindness. His head also is cocked to one side. Other than that he is 'very healthy'. Blackjack's temporary owner feels that Blackjack would make a 'great companion for an older, retired person'.
