About Shannon-PENDING!

Australian Shepherd / Border Collie
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Female

There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter. Shannon, at only 12 weeks old and 20 lbs (is estimated to be full grown at about 40 - 45 lbs), was facing the end of her life before it ever began due to lack of space at the shelter. Farfel's New Mexico rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this puppy...they rescued Shannon just in time. This sweet and engaging Australian Shepherd/Border Collie puppy is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. Shannon is incredibly beautiful...with her gorgeous tricolor coat and the brilliant colors that have come out since she received a sudsy bath after her release from the shelter. To keep Shannon's coat gorgeous and healthy as she grows, she will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement is a great lifelong choice for longevity and coat care) to keep her coat cottony-soft and matt-free. Shannon is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's super- smart which is very typical of the herding dog breeds. Shannon is so loving and very sweet...clearly having no memory of her scary start. Since Shannon is just a baby, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome family companion and will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) while learning positive socialization skills through puppy kindergarten followed by group Obedience Classes. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with appropriate behavior. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of positive reinforcement (force- free) trainers in your area. We're open to Shannon finding her forever home with a very active retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a puppy. Savannah is great with children as well...we would prefer to place her in a home with older kids that can participate in a gentle yet consistent training regimen. We're seeking a home for our sweet girl where the family is retired or either works from home or just part-time. Shannon is far too sensitive to spend long days alone at home. Shannon will be up to date on her vetting. We're hoping that she will be spayed when she arrives from New Mexico, however a very young puppy like Shannon is often deemed too young to spay. If this is the case, Farfel's will cover all costs for Shannon to be fixed in Denver to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. Shannon will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 5/19/18. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this extremely sweet, cuddly and fun-loving best friend, please fill out our application and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Shannon please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
