About Thaddeus

Thaddeus is a gorgeous Great Pyrenees guy that wants to spend his senior years with a loving family. Here are 11 things that Thad wants his perfect people to know about him: 1. I was found on the side of the road. The nice people that stopped for me thought I had been hit by a car, but that wasn't it. I had just been walking for a very long time, which had made my arthritis hurt pretty bad! 2. Since I've been in rescue, my life has changed for the better. I've gained some much needed weight and the new anti-inflammatory medicine my foster mom gives me every day makes me feel like a pup again. 3. I also got a new hairdo! Because I had been homeless for so long, my coat was really dirty and matted, and there were lots of ticks and fleas hiding in all that fur. Although the nice people tried to wash and brush me, they soon realized that I really just needed a fresh start. The next thing I knew, I had a new haircut (and almost no hair left)! 4. Even though the trim was a vast improvement, it caused another complication. You see, I started feeling super excited about how great my new life was, and I would wag my tail ALL the time. Sometimes I would wag my tail while I was standing really close to a wall, and without all the furry padding that I was used to, I ended up with 'happy tail.' My foster mom tried lots of things to fix it, but the veterinarian decided it was better to dock my tail than to risk an infection. So now I'm the proud owner of a 'nub!' 5. Because I've been on the mend for most of the time I've been in rescue, I haven't had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with other dogs. However, I've liked all the dogs I've seen or met briefly, no matter their size. 6. I see lots of cats around the neighborhood, and I really don't have much interest in them. 7. Like most Great Pyrenees, I can be protective of my space when strangers approach. However, when I'm out and about, I love all people and I'm very affectionate and gentle. 8. I haven't been around children since I've been in rescue, but I think it would be okay if my new home had kids, as long as they aren't very young or rambunctious. 9. I enjoy spending time with my people, going for slow walks, and, of course, eating! 10. I am wonderful on a leash, and know how to sit. 11. Our dogs are available for adoption nationwide but preference is given to adopters willing to do an in-person meeting. Please understand that our dogs are not adopted on a first-come, first-serve basis, but rather we strive for a 'perfect placement' so we know that they will not be failed again.
