About Skotch

Adoption Fee: $150
Lab / German Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

We rescued Skotch from an animal shelter in January of this year. He is a very good dog but it has become clear that our living situation is not a good fit for him. For the most part he listens well, learns and obeys commands well, and is good on a leash, though he is still in puppy phase so he sometimes gets overly excited. Even at a dog park, however, we do not take him off leash (he is left on his walk leash or a 50ft leash that lets him run) as he can be over excited and distracted by his surroundings and not listen to recall command. He is kennel trained during the day when we are at work but, about 30% of the time he can't hold it the whole 9 hours we are gone and will pee in his kennel. For the most part he has been taught not to bark, though on a rare occasion he will get overly excited and bark. He is very friendly, though not much of a cuddler, he LOVES to play, especially tug-of-war with his ropes. We don't know his history but it's clear he has not been socialized with other dogs or people as he becomes over excited to the point of misbehaving. He is not aggressive or mean, but curious enough that he stops listening to commands. We have 2 cats and he has learned to be respectful of them, doesn't chase or threaten. So we feel he would do well in a house with other animals, given time and training to become socialized. He is patient and passive with the kids that live in our apartment complex, never shows any sign of aggression, so once socialized he would probably be fine with kids as well. He eats well. Plays well. Obeys well (for a puppy). And is really a good dog. However we feel it imperative that he be in a house with more space and a yard and people who would only need to leave him home for a short amount of time, rather than the length of a work day. He really longs to be a companion to someone 24/7 and would make a wonderful one. He was given a checkup by a vet a month ago and has a clean bill of health with all vaccines. At the time he had a small infection of his bladder, but with meds, that cleared up and there are no other issues. We will take the time to get to know people interested in him as we want to make sure he will be going to a good home that can meet his needs. For his benefit, we are taking on this responsibility, rather than returning him to the shelter. We are asking for the adoption fee mainly to offset all of the bling that he comes with: a kennel (Large) or two (also have an XL), toys, 2 beds (one fluffy and one durable Kong), a large stash of dog biscuits and bones, a dog food storage/feeder combo (holds 30 pounds and raises bowls off ground for better digestion), 2 walking harness (one Kong full body, one Puglife chest), a walking leash and a 50ft leash, a baby gate with a cat door. Any or none of these are yours if you want/need them. He has THE CUTEST FLOPPIEST EARS EVER and LOVES PEANUT BUTTER!!
