About Hobson

Adoption Fee: $30
Border Collie mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Hi, I'm reaching out because I need to find a loving home for my 10-year-old border collie mix, Hobson. I've lived in South Boulder for almost 12 years but am moving to Japan to teach at an international school. As excited as I am about the opportunity, I have been utterly agonizing over the fact that Tokyo would NOT be a healthy and happy place for Hobson. I thought I'd found a perfect family to adopt him; they adored him and seemed ideal, however they have decided that they need to get a little dog they can fly with. I'm looking for someone wonderful who would like to adopt an incredibly sweet and loving companion. Hobson is a border collie mix who is extremely affectionate, well-behaved, loving, and gentle. He's around 10 (bit of a guess, since I originally adopted him from the Boulder Humane Society when he was still essentially a puppy) and is very healthy (just last week he had his annual physical and lepto vaccination update). He's had the same vet ever since I've had him, and he could provide all of Hobson's records. He is gentle--the name is my 2-syllable version of Hobbes from 'Calvin and Hobbes'. When I adopted him, I took my then very young nephew whose name is Calvin (also after the comic character ) to the shelter to see how they interacted. He's always been wonderful with my friends' babies and children, and with my niece who has autism. He's also great with other dogs. He'd be best in a home without cats, just because they continue to intrigue and perplex him, so he follows them around and stares at them like a canine stalker. If I were a cat, it'd drive my nuts. He loves hiking, hanging out with me when I'm doing yard work, swimming or 'fishing' in a nearby pond, and just keeping people company. When I used to ride at a local barn, he often joined me and was comfortable around the horses. When we're out and about, I swear he's as happy to greet people as he is other dogs. He likes to lay down in front of a picture window in my living room to watch what's happening outside. He's extremely affectionate and likes to be close--he tended to want to climb inside of my sleeping bag when camping. I've had an *incredibly* difficult time thinking about not having Hobson in my life; I try not to think about it, but of course, it's always lurking in my mind. **His well-being is paramount.** I appreciate you taking the time to think about whether you would be or whether you know of anyone who might be a good fit for him. Grateful and heavy-hearted, ~Sheri Tappert
