Ducati is the sweetest, lovable cat I've ever been privileged to know or meet. He loves tummy rubs when he's comfy and has incredible tolerance with children having been around multiples from birth to teens. He is an inside/outside cat that gets anxious when he is caged or kept inside. His typical routine is to go out in the AM to potty and then either comes back in when we leave for the day or will come back in the afternoon; often we find that he is hanging out waiting for us when we get home. He is a talker with me all the time and loves to hang out in the yard with me when I am gardening, sunbathing or hanging under the canopy if it is raining. For others, he's mostly just a talker when he wants food or to be let outside/inside. Non-destructive of anything, never once has he set claw to a piece of furniture or tooth to an electrical cord. Two years ago in September we moved just over a mile away from the home we lived in since his adoption at 8 weeks to 4 years of age. Shortly after moving he started getting into fights with the already-established cats and presenting with symptoms of recurring bladder/UI infections. He has undergone ultrasounds, multiple UAs, and xrays to determine what the cause is without luck or any indication of any bacteria. In October 2017, he was put onto fluoxitine to see if the cause was stress and anxiety from the new location and other territorial cats. This worked well for several months and we could see the change in his behavior as being more relaxed and healthy looking. Unfortunately, in February 2018 he had his first relapse and has had two more instances that followed right after a fight with the local cats. He prefers to avoid these cats and we have found them in our yard chasing him, even though we have a dog and intentionally scare off the cats any time we see them near our property. When he goes through these periods of symptoms he starts to urinate blood in the house and on our daughter's clothing which causes her immune system to allergies. It absolutely breaks my heart that the vets we have taken him to and all our researching has not found a solution, especially as a single income family and a daughter recently diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder that just adores him. Ducati is my baby boy kitty cat, he comes when called and is trained to 'sit pretty' for his treats and meals. He currently gets grain-free wet food in the am with his fluoxitine and then is supplemented with grain-free dry food in a bowl for when he's hungry. Unfortunately, our neighbors feed their cats Friskies outside and he prefers to eat that food which further irritates his condition. I wish that we could just keep him inside and prevent him from being around these particular animals (he had several kitty friends at the other house but this neighborhood is not as friendly it seem) but Ducati needs more room than our 1100 sq ft home can provide him. He has been 50/50 all his life, is a house and yard defender against rodents, and has even gone after grows that were pulling seedlings out of our garden. I believe he would do well with someone who has a larger area that he could roam or at least less-aggressive neighborhood cats as he did well before we moved here. I am in agony over this decision to rehome Ducati and I would hope that whoever chooses to adopt him would be willing to send us updates with photos. I've never had to rehome an animal myself so I'm not sure if this is a normal request but I know that part of my heart will be gone when he leaves so updates would help soothe some of the anguish we are feeling, especially my daughter as he loves to sleep on her desk chair at night.
