About Bart

Hi, I'm Bart! I'm a Rat Terrier mix, who is 5 years old and weighs 12 lb. I spent most of my life in a small cage at a puppy mill, where I was alone and scared and never saw a lot of people or other dogs. Then New Rattitude rescued me, and my foster parents showed me that most people are OK and that I didn't have to be scared. I am still shy and warm up to people slowly, but once I can trust you, I'm a loyal fellow who will enjoy your attention. I do ask not to be in a home with small children because their quick movements and just being kids can be scary. My foster parents have other dogs and cats, and I get along with them all. With these new friends, I've learned to do something that's really fun and brand new to me. It's called play! I also like to walk, wander, explore, and protect outdoors, so I would be happy in a home with a fenced yard. It's also where I've learned to go potty very reliably, but if you don't have a fence, I don't mind walking on a leash. At night I like to sleep in bed with my people or in a comfortable crate with an open door. I don't mind being in a crate; it's my safe place. My foster parents have helped me learn that you can trust most people and that there's a world outside a puppy mill. Now I'm ready for my own family--a family with the desire to help me discover what a dog's life is really meant to be and the patience to allow me to make this discovery at my own pace.
