About Koi

Pretty Brindle 75 lb female Koi is a very sweet girl but like most Akitas, she is aloof at first with strangers and you must earn her trust. She definitely picks and chooses her people. After going through heartworm treatment where she was confined and limited in her movement and got a lot of painful injections, she does not really liked to be hugged or have people in her face. She does love to lean in and be petted once she gets to know you, but hugging makes her uncomfortable. While she is not a velcro dog, she does like to be close to and around her people and sometimes seeks attention and affection on her own terms. She gets along well with another large Akita male named Saxon, but it took time and careful introductions because she does not accept other dogs immediately. Koi definitely does not like children due to some kids behaving badly around her and not being able to keep their hands to themselves. Koi can be possessive over toys and does not like to give them to people or share them so it is best to just let her play with them by herself or trade her for something better rather than trying to grab them or take them away. Even though she is not a greedy eater and likes to pick and graze any her food, you would want to feed her separately from any other pets in the home. She like to run around a little and sometimes gets the zoomies and especially loves to pick up her Jolly Ball and then bat it around with her paws like a cat. She mostly likes to be indoors and has not had any potty accidents inside, even when she was in an outdoor kennel, she would try to avoid going in her kennel area.
