About Neo

Adoption Fee: $300
Neapolitan Mastiff
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

MEET NEO !! This beautiful 3-4 year old Neapolitan Mastiff is so sweet and such a dream. Quiet, mellow and shy at first. Neo quickly warms up once he knows or sees a familiar face and trusts you. Pretty typical Neapolitan behavior. Neo has a beautiful thick and full jet black coat when he's not rolling around in the dirt at the rescue. Beautiful amazingly clear and stunning eyes. No cherry eye or entropion. Neo was neglected by his owners and then taken and dumped in one of our local shelters who reached out to me because I rescue and train Neos and Corsos and this poor boy was in deplorable condition. He was emaciated amongst other things and within a month he gained all his weight back and just now stopped gaining at about 130/135 lbs. (I can take him to the vet and get a weight on him) He's a big nice thick big boned boy. He has an ear crop and his tail looks to be natural or just slightly cropped. He has one of the most gorgeous colored and healthiest coats with perfect skin and no food allergies. We immediately switched him to a grain free diet of salmon & sweet potato formula. I held fundraisers on my social media sites and raised the money to have his ears, skin, coat and weight all checked out by my vet and to comply with animal control. Neo has no health issues. He is social with all the females in the program. I have introduced him to one male but have been reserved in introducing him to too many male dogs because of his past. He is calm. He does not jump up and is a non barker. We had a mom and litter of small Maltipoo puppies come in and he ignored them in the puppy run. But we never put them together. We expect him to be an indoor dog but he LOVES to be outside. Sunbathing and moving into the shade when he gets too hot. We have a female Neo with cancer that is hospice who he hangs out with and spends most of his time with. Along with a Pit mix and a Frenchie. Because Neo was kept as an outdoor dog before we rescued him I wanted to make sure to get him crate trained. It took about a week or so. And within a month he was going in on his own to sleep and eat. He will whine like a baby to let you know he either needs to pee or he's hungry for dinner. I've never heard him whine for breakfast. Neo is a big boy. Therefore we are asking that experience Neo, Mastiff, Pit Bulls and former bully breed owners inquire only. We have no issues putting Neo in a home with another large breed female. And or as an only dog. He coexists and commingles with the other dogs in the program but we have yet to see him play with them. He does play with the founder who is his foster and has been training him. He is now fully crate trained. Knows how to sit, down and high five on both sides. He still pulls and needs leash work as he was never walked before. Just sat in a yard with no interaction. Neo is ready for her new forever home and forever family. This is his real name from his original owners so we kept it. A home with a yard where he can run and play would be great. He loves toys and to carry around big giant rawhides but we limit his bones to crate time because of the other dogs in the program. His favorite toy is a 3' or 4' extra thick rope toy. But we never play tug-o-war. You will see him in pics with a small dog but we will only be placing him in a home with another Mastiff, Pit Bull or other bully type breed so he can play, run and be with like breeds. The small dogs in the program are used to being around giants. Neo is neutered, microchipped, housebroken, crate trained, up to date on all vaccines including rabies. He is a big baby. Likes to hang with other large breed/like breed females and lives with females well with his foster but he's a professional dog trainer. So if you have a friendly female we can try an introduction and see how it goes. You must have prior Mastiff, Pit Bull or bully breed experience to adopt Neo. Kids we will consider if they're older and dog savvy. Adoption fee $300 We have a much more detailed bio and description available to qualified adopters. Please inquire via email and include a little bit about your house, yard, fence, property, lifestyle and activity level. Include your prior dog experience, previous pets, all current pets in the house and or children and their ages. Dogs need stability and consistency so we require all this info when placing a large breed dog because we want his next home to be his forever home. He was already failed by his first family. We do as much as possible to avoid that happening again. We have put a lot of time, love and energy into Neo and he is a very sweet, appreciative and trainable dog. Also protective of his home and those he knows. Thank you for choosing to adopt.
