About Big Bertha

MEET BIG BERTHA! She is an 8 year old Valley Bulldog who stands about 4 feet tall and weighs 85 lbs. She is assertive as any typical bulldog breed is known to be and she is physically strong. Here's her story: She was originally an owner surrender to a shelter in Tennessee at 2 & 1/2 years old. She was adopted there and then showed up at a shelter in West Virginia 3 years later. Well, she got adopted again and then this past February she was found running along the interstate in Madison NC. We were called to see if we had room to take her in and find her a permanent new loving home. She has been fully vetted but she did test heartworm positive which we have started her therapy on. (We are doing the slow kill method with her). Her medicine will be provided and we will waive the adoption fee if we find the perfect adopter for her due to her heartworm condition. However, this is something she will recover from. We have successfully treated many shelter dogs who are now heartworm negative. She is very active, loves to play with toys and is always ready to ride. Whoever had her previously must have been a traveler because she will jump in a car in an instant and tell you to drive on baby! She is dog selective and because of her strength we would recommend her being an only dog UNLESS the potential adopter has bulldog experience and is a strong pack leader. We have been housing her outside in our kennels but with the weather getting warmer, she is a breed who needs to be inside out of the heat. However, when outside for exercise(which she loves) she definitely needs a fenced yard. Bertha is a great girl who will make someone a fabulous companion.
