About Tootsie

Adoption Fee: $90
Chihuahua / Rat Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Tootsie is a precious pup who came to PAWS as an owner surrender when they couldn't care for her any longer. Her personality/behavior can best be described as very sweet, playful, friendly, shy (upon first meeting someone, but warms up quickly), affectionate, and laid back. She is not aggressive, but will growl when anyone tries to pet or touch her when she hasn't initiated wanting to be petted. Tootsie follows her foster mom through the house wherever she goes. She loves to be a lap dog and wants to snuggle up to you. She's moderately active and is not very vocal. Tootsie loves to play with stuffed animals. She'll retrieve them and throw them up in the air while she's playing with them. She also loves playing with her one ball she brought with her from her previous owner. The fosters have their own dogs and cats and she's playful with the dogs and chases the cats, but doesn't try to hurt them. Her exercise needs would be average, and she loves riding in a car. She is trained to potty outside and also uses pee pads in the house. She walks well on a leash and loves to go outside for her daily walks. Tootsie is crate trained and in fact, likes the crate and goes in easily to sleep with no barking or whining. She's also been known to sleep in her foster's bed, and loves to snuggle up to her under the covers. Tootsie loves her foster daddy. She sits in his lap in his recliner most of the day or will chill out in her dome pet bed. Tootsie is usually left alone for up to six hours a day, but doesn't bother anything and has no separation anxiety. Her only quirk is the growling if you try to touch her when she doesn't want it. She is also a nibbler when it comes to food. She will only eat small amounts at one time, then will go back in a few minutes and eat a few more pieces. Tootsie doesn't drink a lot of water at once, so fresh, clean water should be provided for her at all times. We would recommend Tootsie for an experienced or first time dog owner. She would be fine as an only dog or sharing her life with canine companions with proper introductions. We don't recommend her with small children. Tootie is on the slow kill heartworm treatment which will take anywhere from 6-9 months to clear out, then will need to be on HW prevention for the rest of her life. If you have the time to give her lots of attention, and can snuggle and love on her, she'll return the love 10 fold!
