Meet Buddy A shelter is no place to celebrate your first birthday and that's just what Buddy did. Unfortunately, Buddy had no family to celebrate this important milestone with and his first birthday just slipped away unnoticed. Buddy senses that his life is not normal. And it's not normal because Buddy is spending his puppyhood living behind bars on a concrete floor. Buddy was one of 14 Chihuahuas that his owner surrendered to Animal Control in the spring. We were able to bring Buddy into our shelter on April 12, 2018. Buddy has had a hard life, but he is a survivor. When Buddy first arrived he was scared, scared, scared. He'd never experienced kind human contact before he came to us -- he was just one of many Chihuahuas running on the road waiting to get hit by a car. But all of that's changed. Buddy is safe and has learned to trust people thanks to the dedicated love and patience of our staff and volunteers. Buddy is now a loving, calm and super sweet little boy. He walks well on his leash and plays well with the other remaining Chihuahuas in our care. He takes treats and loves a lap and some sunshine to make his day a happy one. Buddy is most likely not house-trained, but he is super smart and with patience, kindness, and consistency, he'll learn fast. He wants to please and he wants to love someone and be loved back. Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. If you don't receive this email within 24 hours, please check to make sure all application fields were completed or please call our shelter at 706-865-4135. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet, a call to landlord if renting and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. Those who are not in a nearby community will have a virtual home visit. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
