*MUST LIVE IN 50-MILE RADIUS OF ITASCA (A SUBURB OF CHICAGO) WITHIN THE ILLINOIS BORDER TO ADOPT, NO EXCEPTIONS!* Hi there! My name is Mya, and I am a sweet, special senior lady who is looking for a retirement home to call my own! I am an 11-year-old retriever mix who is available for adoption through Fetching Tails Foundation. I arrived to Fetching Tails in rough shape medically, but thanks to lots of tender, loving care I am now a beautiful 60-pound lady with luxuriously soft, shiny black fur. I am a devoted friend and have a loving personality that is even more beautiful than my stunning physique! I came to Fetching Tails from Chicago Animal Care & Control, where my previous owners surrendered me because they could no longer take care of my medical needs. You see, I have Cushings Disease, and left untreated I was suffering with conditions including incontinence and extreme hair loss. I was going to be euthanized, but my friends at Fetching Tails fell in love with me at first sight and promised to give me a chance to find a loving home for my senior years. My amazing foster family has nursed me back to health, and now that I am on a healthy diet and medicine I am feeling like a brand new dog! I am a loving, loyal queen and lavish my favorite people with attention. I love to be brushed and will gaze at you with my bright, soulful eyes while you pet my silky fur. As an older lady, I am a calm, mellow girl who enjoys lots of naps and am content to lay near you on my favorite bed of soft, squishy towels (I know that sounds unique, but I will choose my beloved towel pile over fancier dog beds any day of the week!) But I also love leisurely strolls as much as possible, so if you are looking for a walking buddy I am your girl! I might be on the slow side, but I think of it as a good reminder to take time to enjoy the world around us! Because of my Cushings Disease, I need to tinkle more often than most dogs, so it would also be nice to have a fenced yard where I can go out and do my business when I need to as well. I would also love a home without many stairs so I can get around with ease. If you have human kiddos, I would prefer them to be older since I love the calm lifestyle; my human foster brother is 14 and we are good buddies! I also get along with dogs and kitty cats (I mostly ignore them!), though I would be very happy as your one-and-only furry friends as well since I love human attention most of all. I am a well-behaved lady, too! I let my foster momma know any time I have to go outside to go potty, and will relax on my bed most of the day even when she leaves the house. My foster is a stay-at-home momma and that has been a great benefit to me because of my need for frequent potty breaks, so it would be nice to have humans that are home more often than not in my forever home, as well. If I have to go potty when my foster family isn't home, I will use a lined potty pad near the door. My medicines have helped a lot with controlling my urination issues, but I still might have an occasional accident. My foster momma will be happy to explain my medicine regimen in further detail so we can have the healthiest life together possible! I know my specials needs might be a little challenging, but I dream about the special people who will look past my illness and see the devoted, loving, gorgeous girl I am and give me the amazing home I crave where I can rest my head and enjoy my life with you by my side.
