She was adopted from Almost Home 3 years ago, but her owners schedules have changed and they are now away for long hours. Mama is now with a relative but her schedule is not much better and the family wants Mama to have the attention she deserves. Here's her info: Mama is about 8-10 years old and on the smaller side, about 40 pounds. She was rescued from North Carolina, we adopted her in May 2015. She was severely abused (bred and caged) and the abuse that she suffered has not only left her timid, but also left her without many of her teeth and with poor vision. She took about 6 months to trust me and never really got comfortable with my husband. She is currently living with my sister and her dog and has been doing very well and learning a lot from having a companion dog. Since living with another dog, she has learned to sit (her first command!) and barks while playing which was a sound we never heard from her before. My sister works long hours though and isn't home as much as Mama needs her to be. Mama is a very well behaved and incredibly loving dog and likes to sleep on the couch or on her pillows. She'll follow you around the house and is always close by if she's not sleeping. If you're sitting she'll come over and put her head in your lap so she can get some scratches and will always give you her big beautiful 'pitty' smile! She isn't afraid of the car anymore and loves going on trips, even to the vet because she loves getting all the attention now! She likes going for walks and doesn't pull on her leash but she will wander off if she sees an opportunity or is left unattended, so she has to stay on some sort of lead if she's not in a fenced yard. She would do best in a home where someone is home most of the time so someone retired, disabled or works part time or from home. A home with another dog would be nice so she can continue to grow and learn what being a dog is really all about. She doesn't mind cats or small children.
