THIS POST IS CURRENT - YOSHI IS STILL AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE INQUIRING ABOUT HIM. OUR PROCESS: APPLICATION VET REFERENCE CHECK HOME CHECK TRIAL PERIOD IF YOU ARE CLOSE ENOUGH TO WHERE HE IS BEING FOSTERED ADOPTION PAPERWORK AND PAY THE ADOPTION FEE IF THE TRIAL PERIOD IS SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION FOR FOR ADOPTION: http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/E53LXc4bsw6r997fuK4 We are looking to place Yoshi within a 2.5 to 3 hour radius of Washington, DC where he is being fostered. FIRST AND FOREMOST, YOSHI NEEDS TO GO TO A HOME THAT HAS AT LEAST ONE OTHER YOUNG CONFIDENT DOG THAT CAN SERVE AS HIS 'GUIDE DOG' AND WILL HELP HIM OVERCOME HIS FEARS AND WILL HELP HIM LEARN HOW TO 'DOG'. HE WILL ALSO NEED EXPERIENCED DOG OWNERS WHO CAN HELP HIM WORK THROUGH SOME ISSUES THAT WILL REQUIRE TIME AND PATIENCE. HE WILL NEED POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT - HE'S ALREADY HAD ENOUGH NEGATIVE IN HIS SHORT LIFETIME. Yoshi was rescued from a high kill facility in Okinawa, Japan. He traveled stateside to a new family in late January but he just returned to rescue as the adoption was not a good fit for him. His family was not home enough to help him with his issues. With work, school, and after school activities, Yoshi was not getting the people time that he needed to overcome the issues that he has. Yoshi is fearful of hands and leashes. He can be quite anxious at times and flighty. He will urinate submissively when he feels cornered or trapped. His crate is his 'safe place' but he also loves to run around the yard. The hard part is getting him back into the house and so that is where other dogs in the home come into play. Yoshi has just recently started a medication called Prozac to help with his anxiety and we are already seeing a positive difference. Gender: male neutered Size: about 25 pounds but is underweight and needs to gain a few pounds and will likely top out in the 28 TO 30 pound range. Breed: Poodle mix. Not sure what he's mixed with but likely something bigger. He could also be pure breed but we cannot claim that with any certainty. Low to non-shedding dog. No guarantees that he won't shed because we do not know what he is mixed with. Age: 1 to 1.5 years old Vaccines: combination, rabies Micro-chip - yes neutered - yes heartworm status - negative on heart worm preventative and flea/tick preventative. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION AND ONLY SUBMIT AN APPLICATION IF YOU HAVE ALL OF THE 'MUST HAVES'. BECAUSE YOSHI HAS ALREADY HAD ONE FAILED ADOPTION, WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT FIT FOR HIM SO THAT HE CAN BE SUCCESSFUL. Yoshi needs: 1. another young, playful confident dog in the house. Preferably a dog that is about the same size as him or larger. He may be too rough with a dog that is substantially smaller than him. 2. stand alone house in a non-busy area. He'd not enjoy living in an apartment, condo or townhouse. It's too busy for him. He would not do well in a high traffic/congested area. He startles easily at loud noises and too much activity. 3. fenced yard (physical fence) 4. no small children in the house including those that visit on a regular basis. He could probably tolerate 10+. He's fine with children but doesn't really like a lot of noise or fast movements. It stresses him out. 5. someone around a fair bit. Although Yoshi is crate-trained, he needs people time and staying home alone for hours and hours every day will not help him overcome his issues. 6. active family willing to get him out for a couple of decently long (1+ miles) each day. While he does fine in the back yard, he needs to experience new things to build confidence and he'd not get that just running around a back yard. 7. Patient, dog experienced owner that can help Beau overcome his fears and become more confident. He will urinate when he is very fearful especially when he has no 'escape route'. He is somewhat fearful of hands and leashes although we still go out for 2 x 2 mile walks/daily. He LOVES to go on walks and is starting to relax and enjoy sniffing and exploring a bit instead of focusing on the hands. It is going to take months for Yoshi to overcome his issues and he may never become a happy-go-lucky dog although we are already seeing glimmers of hope. He needs POSITIVE reinforcement. He's had too much negative reinforcement and mistreatment in his previous life before he was rescued. Adoption fee $400.
