About Theo

Rottweiler
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Theo is a wonderful rottie, looking for his furever home. He had a rough few months before being rescued by SSRR. Theo was picked up as a stray and was underweight and heartworm positive. He thought he'd be ok when he was adopted, but was returned to the shelter mid heartworm treatment. (It was the fault of the adopter, not Theo's.) So there Theo was, back in the loud shelter and feeling awful due to those nasty heartworms dying off in his body. But then he was rescued by SSRR! Theo's foster mom has been very slow and patient with him as he became used to his new surroundings and started feeling better. He needs a forever home that is also willing to be patient as he adjusts. Once Theo starts to feel comfortable, he is incredibly affectionate! He wants to be with his people as much as possible. His foster home doesn't allow dogs on the furniture, and while Theo respects that rule, he would be very happy to curl up on the couch with his human. Theo will make an excellent addition to just about any household. He really loves attention and would do best in a home where the people are around a lot. For example, a retired couple, stay at home parent, or someone that works from home. He loves the foster children he lives with. They are 14 and 11. Any children need to be able to understand that Theo needs patience. Young children would probably get knocked over and stepped on by Theo in his enthusiasm to get attention. (He will be about 75 pounds when he reaches a healthy weight.) Theo is cat and dog friendly. He even wags his tail at the neighbor's little poodle that runs around. Theo's foster cat sister has allowed him to sniff her and he shows no aggression. His foster brother is a 70lb rottie mix and they like each other. His foster mom has allowed on leash interactions and walks, but no off leash play yet. (Remember she takes things slowly!) Theo walks very well on a leash! He is housebroken, crate trained, knows sit, and comes when called. He's learning the commands of stay, leave it, and off. Toys seem to be a new thing for Theo. He really loves nylabones and soft toys. But if he squeaks the toy, he drops it in surprise! Theo's foster mom says he has the gentlest mouth of any big dog she's been around. He gives kisses with the tip of his tongue. When he's given a treat, Theo takes it very carefully. He's shown no food aggression around people. In fact, when he first arrived at his foster home, Theo didn't eat unless his foster mom was in the room with him. Please consider giving Theo his deserved furever home! Please Note: SSRR offers free transport to our adopters but at times we have a Rottie that cannot be put on a transport. Theo is one of those dogs that cannot be put on a transport. Therefore, he must be adopted within 3 hours from his current location.
