About Annie Blu

Annie is beautiful and she is very sweet, great with everyone and has never met a stranger. She is roughly 2.5 years old and loves kids and didn't have a problem with my friend's cat when we visited them last week. She does well with other dogs, doesn't behave terribly on a leash, though she does need a harness and not a collar (she will come with one) and we recommend a retractable leash. She is fully house broken and not destructive inside. Annie is healthy and she has yet to be fixed. We will not adopt her out without a contract saying that you will have her spayed within a months time so please be prepared to should that cost before seeking adoption. She is absolutely NOT a hunting dog, she is a pet. She is afraid of wildlife... she once ran like a bat out of Hades and hid under a camping table because a tiny flying squirrel jumped at her snout! Lol She does not have a very keen sense of smell if she actually has one at all, we suspect she has no sense of smell but she pretends to so make sure you don't tell her that she doesn't. Haha. You can hide bacon in one hand and put both closed fists out to her and she can not find the bacon. We love Annie a bunch even though we have only had her for 3 months after having found her on the side of a highway and being unable to find her original owners after much exhausting effort, however, like many others of her breed she like to fully and completely and very, very quickly run off and not come back at any and all opportunity. With her sense of smell being impaired and her not realizing it, she is unable to find her way back home even if she doesn't get very far away. If she ends up in a place she is unfamiliar with sight wise she can't sniff her way back to where she came from. She needs a fenced in yard and a large area to run. She has some weird obsession with trucks (perhaps her original owners had a truck she watched for coming home each day? We aren't sure but she goes crazy for them and will hop into the truck with a total stranger, happy as a clam!) and she gravitates to roadways because of it and it is because of this that we are extremely afraid for her safety. Today she ran away... again... and traversed a four lane, 60mph highway frequented by semi-trucks, several miles from our camp site. A stranger in a truck called my number from her tags and brought her home. We are not currently living in a place where we can provide her with a fence. We hope someone can give her the home she needs!! We would highly prefer someone who has previous experience with hound breeds, they are truly not like other dog breeds and they come with a unique set of challenges such as the ingrained need to run away, hound 'talking' and barking that you either tolerate or are willing to use a shock collar to stop. I refuse to use shock collars and every single online forum I have come across say that they are the single and only way to control hound barking habits and your only hope to ever let a Bluetick that isn't trained to hunt off of a leash or out of a fence and as I mentioned she can not smell and is afraid of basically all wildlife, so she can never be a hunting dog and we won't allow her to be adopted out for breeding. All of that being said, she is, as the vet has said to us more than once, a beautiful example of her breed and she is absolutely purebred. Thanks for your time!! :)
