About Sophie

Sophie is 9 years old and weighs 8 lbs. Sadly, Sweet Sophie tested positive for heartworm disease. She is being fostered in Altamonte Springs, FL UPDATED BIO 09/29/2018: Sweet Sophie was one of the 25 doggies rescued from a horrendous breeder/hoarder in South Central Florida in April, 2018. Of the ten doggies UYR rescued, four were heartworm positive. Unfortunately, Sophie was one of them. Sophie's foster mom reports that Sophie is doing amazingly well after her last check-up with the vet. She has completed her heartworm treatment and her recent microfilariae, which determines if there are any larvae (baby worms) was negative. Hooray! The final heartworm test will be due in January, 2019 to ensure 100% that all is okay, and this can be done in her adoptive home. Sophie will be having a much-needed dental soon and then will be ready for adoption. Sophie's incontinence/dribbling has pretty much stopped and she is still on medication to help with that. Her foster mom believes that she has bladder control, and needs an environment with a structured and consistent schedule to take her our regularly to do her business. When Sophie is inside the house, she always goes on the pee-pee pads which is surely a bonus. Sophie is a smart little girlie and now that she is feeling so much better, she is showing her foster mom how eager she is to learn new things. She has learned to go up and down the ramp to get on the sofa and has almost perfected going up the ramp to the people bed where she sleeps with her mom - it is a bit higher, but she almost has it down perfect. Sophie gets very attached to her person and wants to be with them all the time, so a home with at least one stay-at-home parent would be ideal. Because she feels so much better, her little sweet personality has come out and she is way more active. She can sometimes even be a bit on the frisky side, especially when she knows she will be going on her walks which she loves. She is acting playful, not like a overly-active puppy, but like the precious princess she is because she is in a loving home, and is happy and loved for the first time in her life. Please don't turn away from this perfect little girlie - Sophie is a princess warrior and has proven that she can overcome any obstacle she faces.
