About Rasta

Adoption Fee: $100
Maine Coon / Domestic Cat
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Rasta got his name because he was a matted dreadlock from head to toe when we found him. His fur was like a helmet on him--poor fella. He is a delightful, loving creature. We believe he has lived outside all of his life. He is FIV positive which means he can only live alone in a catless house or with other FIV positive cats. FIV positive cats should live indoors for the rest of their lives to prevent them from infecting other healthy cats. Out vet thought that Rasta was about 5 years old. From what we understand Sometimes cats with this disease lead normal lives, sometimes they get sick and die right away and sometimes they live 9 or 10 years. He seems very healthy. He was recently nuetered and is learning how to not mark his territory. He is doing good with the learning, Howevery, It would definitely be best, if he can be kept in an area without carpet and slowly integrated into the home--and watched carefully while he is being trained. He always pees in his box when he is in an area that he feels is 'his' and where he feels safe. He is slowly learning not to pee in other places. We love him and really want to keep him, but we have 8 other cats (rescues) who do not have FIV. The friend that he is staying with now, also loves him dearly, but is VERY, Very allergic to him. So sad. So we have to find a new home. Please help this majestic creature! HE IS HUGE!! 16 lbs. He Has had multiple tests, has been fully shaved and has had 3 teeth pulled. He has also had a shot of Convenia antibiotic and has been treated for worms and with a round of revolution.
