About Eddie

Adoption Fee: $100
Plott mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

I found Eddie on a hike in North Georgia a little over a week ago. He was very skinny and weak, but with a little coaxing I managed to limp this poor old guy to my car. I checked around with the local area shelter and the park service, but no one had been looking for him. From what we can gather, he was someone's hunting dog and he either was abandoned due to his age or strayed too far and got lost. When I got back home, I took him to the vet with every intention of keeping him. We updated his vaccines and ran the usual gamut of testing (to the tune of about $400). I was told he was stage 2 heart worm positive and assured that it was very treatable given time. Otherwise, he was 'surprisingly healthy.' Now, flash forward a few days, and I have quickly realized that I do not have the resources to house this dog. He is SO sweet. Great with my other dog, great with my boyfriend's 8 year old, just an overall great dog when we're home. He seemed to have a pillow devouring habit when we were gone, so we decided to keep him outside. Since, we have not managed to find a way to keep him in the yard! It's very clear this dog has been an outside dog his whole life and really needs room to roam in order to thrive. I just don't think he'd be happy confined to the small space we have and, frankly, I haven't been able to keep him confined. I am so afraid that due to his age and aversion to being kenneled that if I took him to the shelter, he would immediately be put down. Please consider giving Eddie the second chance he deserves! All in all, I have spent almost $700 in the past week in order to get him back healthy and would be happy to provide all vet documentation up to this point. He will still need the heart worm treatment, but I have already had all the conclusive testing done and the vet says it can be treated with Heartguard, an antibiotic, and a steroid, none of which should be very expensive. Please consider giving this sweet old guy a chance to enjoy his golden years!!
