About Layla

Adoption Fee: $350
Papillon / Pomeranian
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Layla was born about December 26, 2012 and weighs about 12 lbs. which is just a tad overweight for her. She is absolutely adorable and just as sweet as can be! She is very warm in your lap in the evening after the day is done. Layla is fine with other dogs and would be fine with dog friends in her next life or as an only dog as long as her humans are around much of the time. We have discovered, what we feel, are luxating patellas likely in both back legs. This is a condition that is very common in small breed dogs and the norm is to manage the pain, if there is any, when this becomes irritating to the dog. Layla was adopted to a young retired elderly woman with another dog and things went well until her elderly mother was in the hospital and two dogs became too much of a burden. The good thing about her having a home for just over two months is that we now know more about her. Layla is house trained and fine on leash. She is a bit nervous in a car and riding in a car seat or a crate would be best. Her favorite time to play with her human is when she comes back in the house. She can be barky when inside looking out and on walks it's fun to bark at people cars and birds. It seems she just wants everyone to look her way and tell her she's the cutest ever! She lost a little weigh while gone and could stand to loose another pound. A lifelong lower weight would benefit from the luxating patellas that the owner did have diagnosed. The left side is graded to what the vet felt should be surgically corrected, but we disagree. This little girl shows no pain and goes up and down the flight of stairs in this house just fine. Once again, we feel that a wait and see attitude is the best for any surgery decision. If her weight is kept down we suspect she will be fine going forward. She's lived with it this long and surgery should be a last resort. Layla was her happy, fun, funny, self upon arrival back - she fit right back in, but still does need a real home at some point. Layla did better on a grain free food and occasional probiotics to keep her stools more normal. She's a love and we are sorry we chose the wrong home for her the first time, but we promised to make it up to her the second time around.
