About Cooper

Adoption Fee: $495
Poodle / Cavalier
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Male

Please note: Potential adopters in Virginia and MD are preferred but exceptions are possible for the right family. No apartments, condos, or townhouses please. Cooper is a 5 1/2 month old Cavapoo and so is very low to non shedding. We rescued him and his brother, Teddy, from a pet store in a high crime area where he had been kept in a small cage for the last 3 months without ever being taken out to play, feeling the grass under his paws, or the sun on his sweet little face. Cooper has been to the vet (where he was very well behaved) and has received all of his vaccines and a rabies tag. The only thing that he needs now is to find a great forever home where he will be loved and cared for the rest of his life. The vet said that he will not get much bigger since he has his adult teeth. He is currently just under 14 pounds (the perfect size for cuddling). Cooper's wavy hair will grow long so he must have a family that can afford to have him professionally groomed every 4 to 6 weeks and he must be brushed regularly so that his coat does not get matted and painful. He is a total snuggler and is very smart. He has already mastered the sit and down commands and is learning turn around and roll over. He has also learned to go up and down stairs, and is doing quite well with potty training. He may need additional potty training in his new home. Cooper gets along well with our senior dog and has even made friends with our cat! He used to be afraid of her. He would also be great as an only pet as long as he would not be alone all day. He has enthusiastically embraced playing with toys and loves to romp in the backyard. Cooper can be shy with strangers at first but, once he gets to know you, he is like any normal, bouncy, happy, loving puppy. He went to Petsmart tonight and met lots of nice people and enjoyed checking out all the toys. His favorite thing to do is to snuggle on the couch beside you or to be held. He gets the sweetest, innocent puppy expression on his face when he is in your arms. Don't let that fool you though. Like any puppy, he can be a stinker too. Cooper would prefer a fenced yard or at least long daily walks. Puppy classes or a trainer and a patient, experienced owner to teach him the rules in a positive way so that he can be a successful member of his new family are also required. Cooper has never had toys and treats before so he likes to hog them for himself, but he is learning to share toys and treats with other pets. We will only accept an excellent home for Cooper (not just the first one available). Cavapoos are very smart and like to keep busy and learn tricks or agility. They also like to be with their people and follow them around so do not do well being put in a crate for hours. Given where he has lived the last three months, keeping him in a crate for hours would be cruel. Cooper would like a home where an adult is home with him a lot during the day, such as a stay at home parent or someone who often works from home. Cavapoos stay playful and cute well into their senior years and make fantastic family pets. They are generally eager to please and highly trainable. Please contact us if you would like to inquire about this wonderful little guy. Please tell us what you are looking for in a dog, what your lifestyle is like, if you have other pets or children, and how much time you would have for a dog. Inquiries that fit what we are looking for only please.
