Adoption Fee: $75
Lab / Pit Bull
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

FOSTER LOCATION: Kuna, ID Marie is a two-year-old Lab/Pit mix who first arrived in Idaho last October as part of a transfer of dogs to the Idaho Humane Society from a shelter in Texas. She was adopted in January by a wonderful man who understood Marie was a little nervous and insecure and tried very hard to give her time and space to become familiar with and comfortable in his home. Unfortunately, despite two months of his best efforts, Marie remained afraid of her new guardian, so he contacted Fuzzy Pawz for help in finding her a forever home where she could thrive. While she's been in foster, Marie has taught us several things about herself. First, she gets A LOT of confidence and comfort from having other dogs around, so any potential adopters must have at least one other confident, engaging dog. (Marie has been living with four dogs of varying sizes and energy levels, and honestly seems to love every dog she meets!) Marie's former guardian didn't have other pets and found it very difficult to take Marie on walks or generally leave the house, but if there's another dog there she is much more willing to explore and cooperate. Second, Marie is more comfortable with women - she bonded to her current foster mom fast and hard. For this reason, potential adopters must have at least one adult female in the house - this is sort of a security blanket for Marie. Third, Marie badly wants to trust and love at least some men. While she never grew acclimated to her prior guardian, she did like his father, and in her current foster home Marie has shown strong interest in the adult male. Potential adopters need to understand that Marie will likely not be as initially trusting of or confident with men, and that it could take many months before she fully 'accepts' a new man in her life. They need to be willing to be patient, go at Marie's pace, and not become frustrated or take it personally if Marie exhibits behavior such as barking at them. Although Marie's activity level was non-stop her first few days in foster, once she got comfortable she calmed down and now has a deep appreciation for naps and snuggles on the couch with her foster mom and foster brother pups (and sometimes foster dad too!). However, Marie also still has plenty of puppy in her and enjoys playing with other dogs outside, wrestling on the couch, and checking out toys! Marie is potty trained and crate trained - using a crate in her forever home will be important, as it gives Marie a safe place to which she can retreat if she's feeling uncomfortable or overwhelmed. In her foster home, Marie has been sleeping in her crate every night but hasn't chosen to hang out there otherwise. She also tolerates it well if she needs to be left for a few hours, but in her prior home she did begin chewing on the crate so she shouldn't be left for extended periods or put in the crate without first having an opportunity to burn off some energy. Marie has learned 'sit' and has shown she is a fast learner who's eager to please. She hasn't had much experience going out on walks - in her prior home walks were never successful and frequently required 'rescue' from a neighbor with a dog - walks with a trusted human and a dog buddy will be important for Marie as she learns to navigate the world. If you are looking for a new amazing friend and you can give her a bit of time, patience and an infinite amount of love then Marie is your girl.
