Reggie's face reveals the sadness when realizing that it is time to go back into his kennel having just had a glorious hike with volunteers. Reggie is over the moon happy when he is able to be taken offsite for a long hike during which he can feel like a normal dog. A brief time of smells and sights that are experienced beyond his confined world that is shelter life. Reggie was only 6 months old when he arrived in March 2017. Cute as a button with ears that almost outsize his little face. A cute puppy usually does not usually have a long wait until on their way home. Not so for Reggie. Despite his desperate attempts to catch the attention of visitors as they paused with a momentary glance, Reggie was never what they wanted. Reggie has never met a dog he did not like. He plays with great enthusiasm which may not work for all doggie playmates unless able to firmly keep him in his place when overstepping boundaries. He has recently begun to have some hiking excursions away from the shelter and he revels in the attention,happily meeting people and dogs along the way and loving the thrill of a car ride each way. Those are moments for which Reggie lives. He never hesitates to show his appreciation for those weekly adventures that his young heart wishes would never end. Reggie loves people of all sizes and ages. He is interested in the office cats as they just might be playmates (sshhh, they won't) while respectful of their signals when personal space is overly invaded. He is neutered, fully vaccinated and tested free of heartworms. He is a 1-1/2 year old beagle/German Pinscher mix and weighs 32 pounds. A secure fence already in place is required to adopt Reggie. His boundless happy energy can cause him to have difficulty in focusing and he would benefit from further training. The shelter's trainer is working with him and will provide input and support for his continued training. Please address any questions to the office at 706-865-4135. The approval process can take 1 to 3 days and for anyone traveling a distance to meet a dog/cat, it is suggested that the process be done first so that the applicant will know if they are approved to adopt. The online form may generate a ' Fatal Error' message after submission which is to be ignored. It is a system glitch and the submission HAS gone through. Adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet, a call to landlord if renting and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. Those who are not in a nearby community will have a virtual home visit. Out of state adoption is allowed. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals remain in care for however much time is necessary to find a safe and appropriate home. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control facilities. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoption hours are Tues-Sat 10-4 and Sun 1-4. Closed Mondays.
