Mason came to us as a stray in December. It took us over a week to be able to pet him. At first he was very leery of us but over a few weeks he became friendly. I have 4 children and after we took him to the pound to be quarantined to be sure he was rabies free, we had him fixed and formally adopted him. We successfully trained him on a wireless fence but he has become increasingly protective and aggressive. He is very leery of strangers. He bit the mailman on the foot when he delivered a package. He has bitten 3 out of 4 of my children barely breaking the skin. The other day he bit a little neighbor that comes over all the time and has been very kind to the dog. He bit him in the face leaving 2 puncture wounds between the nose and eye. Thankfully the neighbors parents were kind about it but we cannot keep the dog. We are desperately trying to find adults to take him that are comfortable working with dogs that can be aggressive. After reading the description on here it may be a breed specific behavior. We thought maybe he had been abused prior to coming to us. We wanted to keep him but simply cannot risk him hurting any other children. He is a sweet dog to me and my husband, and he does well with my oldest 2 kids but not the smaller ones. I do not want to take him to the pound as he would probably never be adopted after biting, and he is a large dog. He is a sweet dog though who loves to play and I think with the right training he could be wonderful. He seems to get along well with other dogs. We do not want to have him euthanized but I think this would be more humane than living at the pound. We will have to do something as it's just not safe for kids to be around him and we have many neighborhood children that come over to play. He has to stay in the basement for now when any children come over. Please help if you can. Thank you!
