Hi there - I have a unique situation and I'm hoping you can help me out. I lost my husband about 2 years ago to an unexpected accident. He had 2 children that we shared custody with their mother and as a family unit, we had two dogs. When my late husband passed away, the children went with their mother and the dogs went with me. Since that time, I've made a lot of progress in re-building my life (which hasn't been easy). I've been living with roommates who have helped me take care of the dogs during this time, but I'm ready to start a new chapter and venture out on my own. The problem is, I have a successful (yet busy) career and I'm afraid I won't be able to give them the care and attention they need or deserve. I work long hours, and while they are kennel trained, I don't want to see them cooped up all night and most of the day while I'm working. If this were a normal situation, I would just try to place them for adoption and find them a sustainable home. However, the problem is that the children are attached to the dogs and I'm trying to find a way for them to still be able to visit their beloved pets occasionally. Their family already has pets so they're unable to adopt the dogs themselves, but would still enjoy the opportunity (if it's possible) to see the dogs a couple of times a year. I know this is a strange request, but I feel the need to put it out there to see if anyone can assist in finding a home for our family pups - a home that might be willing to let my kiddos visit from time to time. They are struggling to cope with the loss of their dad, and I wish I were in a situation that was more compatible with raising and caring for the dogs myself. It was easier when we were all living together as a family because we all took care of them and played with them together. But now it's just me, and I've been forced to increase my work load to be able to afford all of our bills on a single income (where there were two of us before). Here's a little more about my 2 woofs: The white one (male/'Koda') is a pure-bred miniature American Eskimo. He came from a breeder, I'm sure I have his papers somewhere. The brown one (female/ her name is 'Girl') is from a litter of Koda's puppies. The mother is a black lab/blue heeler mix. Koda was born on 10-11-12 and girl on 3-5-14. They have been raised in a loving home with lots of attention. They have always been our travel companions and went everywhere with us (camping, fishing, boating, you name it). They love car rides because they know they will soon be enjoying the outdoors - the words 'wanna go for a ride?' literally make them jump for joy, they get so excited. They have spent a lot of time around kids and other dogs, and are trained and well-behaved. They are a little hyperactive right now because they spend the majority of their time in a kennel, but if able to roam and be left out, they are generally very calm. Since they have been raised together, we would prefer they stay together but if that's not possible we understand. Hopefully you can help, or maybe you know of someone that might be a good fit for our situation. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions or to discuss further. Thanks so much for your time.
