About Harlow

Pit Bull mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

I adopted Harlow about 6 years ago with my father from the OC Animal Shelter in Southern California. Harlow is a female Pit Bull mix, about 7 years old, and has all past veterinary and adoption paperwork. I have recently moved up state to Woodland, CA (close to Sacramento) and my father has sold his house and moved overseas. He has been taking care of her while I was away and has recently found her a home with the new owners of his house who no longer wish to keep her due to behavioral issues. Harlow is spayed, micro-chipped, and I believe has all of her shots up to date. She is allergic to certain foods, so we have been feeding her grain free food for the majority of the time that we have had her. She also has a torn ligament in her knee and wears a custom-made brace on walks by suggestion of her veterinarian. Harlow is very adventurous and loves to play int he water, is housebroken and knows a variety of tricks, is well behaved indoors, is great at taking car trips, is quirky, very expressive, and will even pull you on a skateboard too! Unfortunately, she has been displaying some aggressive behavior that started to develop this last summer. Being an only dog, she has never been to fond of cats or other dogs. Will usually play nice, but is unpredictable at times and will get into aggressive fights. Also, during the summer on a camping trip after a strenuous hike an overwhelming amount of stimuli (lots of other people, dogs, and children), Harlow snapped at a hiker. This was the first time she ever displayed behavior towards other people like this. The second occurrence was when a friend took her to Home Depot. Not having actually seen the act, a passerby said that she had snapped at a man. Lastly, the new owners have recently told me that Harlow has snapped at the wife of the couple and no longer wish to keep her. She has never bitten anyone but only snapped. It breaks my heart that she has begun to display this kind of behavior because she has never once acted that way towards me or my family or other visitors in our home and it is beginning to be very difficult to find her a new home. Due to these events and already exhausted options of trying to rehome Harlow I am looking for help. I don't want to give her up to a shelter or have her euthanized because I believe that these behaviors can be diminished with some proper attention and training, but I no longer have the resources to be able to do this myself. I am a college student and cannot keep her at my place of living and am running out of options and need help soon. Thanks for your time. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
