About Jinx

Adoption Fee: $200
Corgi
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Besides being super cute and incredibly awesome, there are lots of important things to know if you're interested in adopting Jinx. Have a seat, this will take a few minutes. (Please read all the information before contacting us about Jinx.) If you've followed Jinx on our Facebook page, you know that he's been with us for quite a while -- almost eight months so far. He came in a cute mess with a host of medical problems. He lost most facial muscle due to an autoimmune issue, his teeth were so rotten that he lost eighteen of them staged in two different surgical sessions, skin issues on his little nose also autoimmune related, and if that wasn't enough torn cruciate ligaments in both legs. The specific autoimmune issue that caused his facial muscle loss is unknown. A biopsy of facial tissue and blood work was unremarkable. Whatever he had, is not active now. We can't say with certainty that it won't come back, but for all the time he's been with us, he's shown no signs of further facial issues. However, should it return it is treatable and manageable. Jinx should have routine blood work at least twice yearly to monitor for any autoimmune indicators. He may be missing most of his teeth, but has no problem eating smaller kibble, and he can enjoy a bully stick or stuffed trachea just like any other dog. No worries there -- he's a corgi after all. They're skilled at eating. His little nose that was all raw and scabbed on intake is looking good now. There will always be some management and monitoring, but treatment is easy and we've been able to taper off somewhat. Treatment depends on how he responds and is not expensive. You also may have seen photos documenting Jinx's CCL surgery, recovery and rehab. He's done wonderfully and will be released soon. This doesn't mean that he can tear after a rabbit just yet. He still needs to be eased back into full activity. A potential adopter must also be aware that Jinx has a CCL tear in his right leg as well. Since he's been in rescue, he's never displayed any lameness or seemed painful in the non-surgery leg. It's likely that the injury is old and has scarred over to the point where he gets around without issue. However, there is a chance that he might need to have another surgery to repair the right leg in the future if he seems painful or lame. Right now, since he is doing so well, we've opted to not put him through another surgery unless he lets us know that he needs it. Going forward, he'll need to be on good quality supplements including glucosamine and fish oil, etc. Did we say that he was a mess or what? If you're still here and curious about Jinx, great! It will be a very special home that lands this little treasure. Jinx is among the sweetest dogs we've had in rescue. He's loves people, does well with other dogs, and has never so much as given a snarky look to any dog at his foster home. He adores attention, loves to go for walks, and is crazy over squirrels and birds. He walks nicely on a leash, is house-trained and crate-trained. He needs a few more weeks before being let loose to tree squirrels and bark at birds. He's been such a joy to have around that eight months have passed quickly and he could easily stay with us forever if needed, but it's time for him to find his own very special people. We understand that known health issues can be a concerning when adopting, but all dogs no matter where they come from can have health issues. For the home that is lucky enough to have Jinx join them, there is some financial assistance available (if needed) for Jinx's future medical needs directly related to his autoimmune issues and for his right leg should surgery be deemed necessary. Whew! We know that was a lot, but he's a super special little guy, and super special guys have LOTS that you need to know about them.
