About Rosie

Rosie is a 6 year old Yorkie/Schnauzer mix (a Snorkie!). Rosie weighs 13.2 lbs and is being fostered in Orlando, FL. UPDATED BIO 05/14/2018: Rosie's previous owner surrendered her to Animal Control for unknown reasons. It was determined when Rosie came into UYR two months ago that she has limited vision. After multiple visits to the nice Ophthalmology Specialists and several rounds of different eye drops, the news isn't what we all hoped for. Sadly, none of the drops have helped Rosie's eyes, which will never be able to produce tears again and she is not a candidate for surgery. The specialist said she will need to use artificial tears such as Gen Teal Lubricant Eye Gel for the rest of her life to keep her eyes from being so scratchy and dry. Here's what Sweet Rosie wants you to know: Rosie here. I wanted to give everyone an update on how I am doing. My foster mom thinks I can see shapes and differentiate between light and dark. If I were to try to describe the way I see things, it is like I am looking through a prism. But don't worry about me! I can get around just fine and I hardly ever bump into anything. And I listen to my Foster Mom when she talks to me and that helps me to find her and follow her. I am such a clever girl. I'm house-trained and I walk well on a leash. I love to be petted and scratched behind my ears. I love to cuddle with my foster mom. She says I AM a good girl and I believe her. I like people and other dogs. I would love to be your little girl. I would like to be in a loving home with a mom/dad who is retired or works from home. I would like to have one stay-at-home parent since I don't like to be left alone for long periods due to my visual impairment. UPDATED BIO 04/02/2018: Rosie has been in her foster home for a couple of days now. Her previous owner surrendered her to Animal Control for unknown reasons. She visited the vet today and they determined that she does have limited vision, but there is so much hyper-pigmentation covering her eyes, it is hard to tell what she can or cannot see. Her eyes are severely dry and she will need to have RX eye-drops in her eyes several times a day for the rest of her life. It is possible that her vision may be improved somewhat after a couple of weeks of eye-drops, but that hasn't been determined yet. It was also determined that sweet Rosie also had bilateral ear infections, but that certainly doesn't change the fact that she is a real sweetheart and very playful. The people at Animal Control said I was a very sweet girl. Anyway, I am so grateful to the nice lady from UYR for rescuing me. I think she's called my foster mom, but I'll call her my angel mom for now. She brought me to her house and took me to her huge backyard. It's there that I met my new fur-sister, Leia. We're going to become good friends, I just know it. My foster mom fed me some really good food, then showed me where the water bowl is. You see, I don't see very well (pun intended). There's something wrong with my eyes. I'll know more when my foster mom takes me to her vet on Monday. Don't worry, my visual impairment does not negatively affect me. I listen to my foster mom's voice and just follow it. Easy, peasy! I'm current on my vaccinations and I'm spayed. I'm house-trained, I walk well on a leash and I'm also crate trained. Aren't I smart?
