About Manny

Adoption Fee: $100
Lab / Great Dane
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

You may remember this guy - it is Manny. He was out to foster for about three months last year and then found what we believed to be a home that would give him the time and space he needed to come the rest of the way out of his shell. He was doing well with the stability of his foster home and a regular routine. Unfortunately he got adopted in November and rather than wait for him to adjust (which everyone knew would not be quick) they decided to drug him starting the first of December. The drugging did nothing but amplify him being afraid of everything and then he went back to having accidents inside when he was drugged. He got more fearful of things and appeared to be drugged enough to more or less be in a zombie state. His condition when he came back in was very upsetting for everyone. We immediately consulted with the vet and got him off the drugs. It took a little while for him to get past the shakes, inability to control his bodily functions, to stand without wobbling and then through all of the mess of everything making him sick at his stomach as he was working the drugs out of his system. He has lost quite a bit of weight but we are giving him plenty to eat to make up for it. He is now doing better and we believe he is very thankful to be back at the shelter. He is still very afraid of strangers - men more so than women - he loves to go on walks as long as you work him through the stages of everything being strange - once he learns the route he does great. He gets along great with other dogs. Not sure on cats but probably not a good idea. He is NOT aggressive. He needs to live in a structured environment where he can learn what to expect. We do not believe he could adjust to a home with young kids where there is a lot of commotion. He is a big boy and is probably a Lab/Great Dane mix. He is 2 1/2 years old.
