Kaiya is a 4 year old Siberian Husky who weighs about 45 pounds. Before being surrendered to a rural shelter in northern New Mexico, she was forced to live outside and suffered frostbite to her ear tips (which have healed nicely) and a possible chemical burn to her tongue. Kaiya also has discoid lupus, a non-contagious skin condition that typically causes crusting of the nose. Discoid lupus can't be cured, but it can be managed with a good diet, nutritional supplements, and avoidance of sunlight. A home where Kaiya can be indoors during daylight hours would be beneficial. Kaiya is house-trained and is generally well-mannered, but she occasionally jumps up on people and mouths their hands (common husky behaviors), so more guidance in these areas will be needed. She gets along well with other dogs but can be a bit 'bossy' at times. A friendly male dog would be an ideal companion for her. Kaiya could also do well as an only dog with a retired person who can spend lots of time with her and treat her like a princess. Kaiya's adoption fee is $225.
