About Potter

Adoption Fee: $275
Cairn mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Meet our little man named Potter. He is a 1 1/2 year old terrier mix who weighs 12 lbs. and is black in color with white markings. Potter is described as a Shih-Tzu and terrier mix on documents given to Puppy Pals. We're not sure of his breed mix, but we do know he's a sweetheart. Potter hasn't had a lot of good breaks prior to coming to Puppy Pals. We understand that he was dropped off at a vet's office (out-of-state) and no one picked him up. We don't know if he was lost and someone found him and took him to a vet or if his owner just didn't want him. We had him transported to Beavercreek, OH. If only they could see him now! A new dog has blossomed. Potter came into Puppy Pals extremely fearful and timid of humans. When he first arrived, he stayed in his crate for a good two weeks without coming out (except to go outside to potty and eat when no one was looking). That was back in early February and he's now made a 180-degree turn, but still has a little ways to go. We feel it's time to start looking for his new home. Puppy Pals completed his vetting needs. He had been neutered prior to his arrival. He has now had all shots updated, been heartworm & fecal tested (both results negative) and been micro-chipped. What he needed most'| was TIME - time for us at Puppy Pals to make him feel at home and give him the reassurance that we were not there to harm him, but to bring him out of his shell and love him. Potter loves to go outside to play. He has the potty and crate training down and we are still working on walking on a leash. He's doing well with the other dogs and will come out to join us from his crate in the family room to rest on the rug near us when we are watching TV or crafting. He loves to eat with the others and is now starting to enjoy some toys. He still remains timid when new people come to his foster home. He'll retreat back to his crate, but comes back out when he feels it's safe. It will most likely take him time to readjust when he goes to his new home as well. He is a quick learner. He just needs someone with time and patience until he trusts you are not going to harm him. Due to this background, Puppy Pals suggests that he be adopted into a home that does not have any small children (or even older children who haven't been around fearful/timid dogs). A fenced-in yard is needed for Potter. He gets along with other dogs and cats. Puppy Pals feels that he would be a great 2nd dog for someone. We will be looking for a home that is quieter and has a calming environment. A lot of loud noise might stress him out. He will bark in his crate (we understand) when you are not home - so he would not work out in a condo or apartment situation. A stay-at-home or work-from-home family/person would be ideal for him. He enjoys having people around (which is a big change from where he started). We have learned that Potter at times gets car sick. He's quiet riding, but gets an upset stomach which can be controlled.
