UPDATE 3-27-2018: Chester is extremely urgent!! Name: Chester Age: Around 2 years Breed: Pit/lab mix Sex: Male (confirmed neutered) Location: Auburn, AL Vet Info: Chester is confirmed neutered. He is up to date on vaccines and is next due for his rabies vaccine in January, 2019. He has had a recent heartworm test which was negative per his owner. He weighs about 55 pounds. His owner has only had him for a short while but she shared this, 'Chester seems to be very healthy! When I got him he was overcoming a respiratory infection and UTI but he has taken all of his medicines and is now doing wonderfully.' His owner also told us, 'I believe that Chester is partially blind (he seems to see some shadows and large/contrasting figures) and that he has lost it gradually. His eyes shake constantly back and forth. He cannot see if I move my hand next to his eye but he does avoid certain figures at times.' Update 3/22/18: 'I hate to say this but Chester is now urgent. He is no longer safe in my apartment. This morning, my roommates dog attacked him....' He is now being boarded at the vet's for his safety. Update 3/15/18: 'I have recently discovered that Chester is barrier aggressive. He gets nervous and tenses up when I'm holding him back in any way by his harness or tugging on his leash. If I'm not, he's perfectly fine and will greet the other dog with no issues. There doesn't seem to be a problem with greeting through fences or crates, just when I'm holding him back. I'm not sure how important this is but I thought I would let you know!' Update 3/3/18: 'Chester just met kids for the first time at a field we go to run around in and he LOVED them! He did run into them a few times but never jumped on them. They were between the ages 4-13ish and he did great with all of them. He was so happy!' Chester is a sweet boy whose owner pulled him from animal control (as a stray) in order to try and find a forever family for him. His owner is interested in either a rescue or someone that is experienced with visually impaired dogs. Owner Info: Chester is a cutie pie whose owner rescued him from animal control with the hope that she would be able to eventually find a forever family for him and give him the chance to find that. She feels that a rescue or a person experienced dogs with special needs would be best for him. His owner told us, 'Chester has quite a bit of anxiety and though we have overcome some of it, he has a ways to go. Someone experienced with blind dogs and willing to work with him will be best.' Chester is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house. He is housebroken but not yet leash trained. His owner is working with him on training and so far knows 'sit.' More so, she is working with him on the anxiety that he has and is making great progress. Chester is described as outgoing but a little nervous and is good with adults, male and female dogs, and cats. He hasn't been around kids but his owner told us, 'I'm not sure how we would do with them. He's very patient and I don't think pulling ears and an energetic kid would bother him, but Chester can be rough when playing and obviously can't see! I believe it'd just be a matter of the kid handling Chester and not the other way around.' He currently lives with 3 dogs and reptiles. He can be a little possessive of toys, treats, or food, if it is around a new dog initially. However, he has never bitten or snapped at a human or another animal. Chester's owner said, 'Chester has shown aggression when brought somewhere new that has dogs he is unfamiliar with. After being taken out of this situation and given time to know the dog he got aggressive with, he loved him and played with him all day.' Chester's owner feels that he would adapt well to a new home environment. 'New places like the dog park are very scary to him but he does wonderful in new home situations. He loved being dogsat for a day at a friend's house and is doing wonderful at my parent's house while we visit.' Chester's owner wants us to know what a sweet and loving fellow he is. His owner said, 'he just wonderful!' Please contact [email protected]. Please note we will ask for a vet reference.
