About Gunther

Rottweiler
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

I have a boy named Gunther. He was surrendered to us because his previous owner was walking him and they turned a corner and there where some men stand in front of them, wearing dark hoodies, and he lunged and barked at them aggressively. She was able to get him under control and move on, no harm done to anyone, but she didn't want a dog that would do that. Gunther has been trained. He walks great on a leash, he is crate trained, knows all of his obedience commands as well the 'place' command and will stay in place for a good amount of time. Gunther's downfalls are that he is obsessed with balls. He loves his ball and sometimes he does not want to give it up and has been known to resource guard his ball. But if you show him another ball he will give one up for the other. He should not be allowed to play with toys with other dogs around him. It could and probably will cause a fight if another dog tried to take one of the toys that he believes he owns all of them. If your dogs don't play with toys then it may not be a problem in your home. You would just need to give him separate yard time and pick up his toys when he is done. Otherwise, if your dogs love toys too, then he would not be a good fit for you. He is also supposed to be food aggressive, though I have not seen that yet. I don't feed him with other dogs around, but as far as being food aggressive with me, he has not shown me anything. I do not put my hands in his bowl or mess with him while he is eating. I figure it's his time to eat and I let him do just that. I put him in his crate, hand him his bowl of food, shut the door, let him eat. Then when it is time, I open the crate door to let him out, allow him to come out, then I pick up his bowl and put it in the dishwasher, and that works just fine for us. He is on the small side for a Rottie. He is only about 75 pounds.
