About DRACO

Draco, from the Latin meaning Dragon . . . yet, if Draco was a dragon he would be more like Puff than Smaug. Draco is a 65lb five-year-old male pit-bull Terrier mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. Draco is an adorable, joyful, playful, sweet, gentle example of a 'Nanny dog,' which pit-bull type Terriers were known as at the turn of the century. He is being fostered in a home with children, ages four and seven. He is great with them laying next to him or petting him. Draco is also good with other dogs, cats, chickens and horses. He's generally a laid-back, well-adjusted, go-with-the-flow kind of guy. Whether lounging around the house or joining you on an hour long hike, Draco adapts to his family's routine, easily. Draco has a medium play-style and interacts well with dogs of all sizes and varieties-he enjoys occasional wrestling and tug-o-war, with balanced energy. Draco is very aware of cats, and when he feels that they are threatening him, he cowers and runs the other way! He is a gentle boy that neither wants to do harm or be harmed. He is well-behaved, eager-to-please and knows: Sit, Wait, Leave-it, No, and he will Come to his name-because he is rewarded with treats and is very food-motivated! He will sit and wait for his meals, to exit his crate, and to go in and out of doors. He is working on leash-skills with a slip-style training lead. He may benefit from a Halti or Gentle-Leader to reduce pulling. He is also learning that counters are not for 'surfing,' so, if the yummy food is not in his bowl or handed to him, he needs to Leave-it. When he is caught in the act, he responds immediately and gets down, when told firmly told, No. Draco is perfectly housetrained. When his people are out, he stays in a break-out-proof crate. But, at night, he sleeps on a dog bed next to his people. Draco, the not-so-mythic creature is ready to be part of your epic adventures, or just to sit beside you while you read about adventures and day dream-because having a forever-family is Draco's dream come true.
