About HOT DOG

Adoption Fee: $ $125
Rottweiler / Black and Tan Coonhound
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Ben: Ben is a really wonderful boy. He is very bright, very, very sweet, low to moderate energy, calm, submissive, and always looking to please his person. He is very playful and gets along great with my other dog and my cats. He and one of my cats often sleep together. He is loving, affectionate likes cuddles, would like to be a lap dog at times. He is also usually very calm for his age. (16 months). Born December 2016. He is very good at mutual play and does not try to dominate my other dog or the cats. He is a Velcro dog and really likes being around his person. He will need to go to a home where either he has a playmate or where he will get to be around his person a lot. His mom is a Rottweiler and very mellow and sweet. Father unknown, he must have had a lot of hound in him. Ben's bark is very hound like and he is looking more and more hound like as well. He is house trained, up to date on his shots, easy and a delight to be around. While he has make a lot of progress in the last few months., he can be skittish around new people, barking, hiding behind me or a low growl. He usually warms up to those people within a few minutes, more quickly if treats are involved. He is also more open to doing this when his dog brother shows him it's safe. He is protective and barks, but is submissive and more of a coward than an aggressive dog. He does have a very substantial warning bark. He has great communication and lets you know when he wants to go out, and he will even go the door and whine to let me know the cat wants to come in. At some point in his young life, his front left leg was fractured. It has healed fine (xrays on hand) but it looks a bit off. He is coming along well in his training, sit, stay, come, down heal and wait. Because he is very bright, eager to please and very food motivated, he is extremely trainable with positive training. I fostered Ben as a pup and at about 9 weeks he was adopted by my neighbor who was rough on him in that he was excessively hard in his discipline, and didn't feed him properly. I took him back in October and he has been with me since and made a lot of progress, in his self esteem and ability to be around new people. Ben has always been a foster to me and he is now more than ready to find his forever home. The ideal home for Ben would be with a person or family who are familiar with positive training and with another dog or two who is young enough to be playful and/or being able to be around his person a lot. He is a truly great dog and I want to make sure he goes to a home that is a good match so we can do a few overnight stays to assure it is a good fit.
