About Zoey

Adoption Fee: $200
Poodle
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

3 year old Zoey has been with her human mommy since she was a puppy but another dog has been antagonizing her. She is 16.5 lbs. and needs to drop a few pounds for health reasons. She is current on vaccines and Heartgard. Her rabies and DHPP vaccines are good for 3 years and neither are due until 2019. Her last bordetella vaccine and heartworm test were done in Sept. 2017. Her mama took great care of her and is heartbroken to let her go. Zoe is very sociable with adults and children and is very affectionate. She is very bossy and territorial around other dogs at this time. She will likely need to be an only pet. Prefer to adopt out locally in Waco, TX area but will consider homes within 100 miles or so. Poodles require regular grooming as they do not shed hair on their own. I will ask which veterinarian and groomer you have used and will use for Zoey. She is housetrained and crate trained. She rides well in the car (except for getting vocal when she is almost home). She can be a talker. She is smart and would do well with some obediance training. She will sit and lay down for me sometimes but I think she is confused about her circumstances right now. She will come when called. She doesn't like to go out to potty when it is wet and rainy (like so many other dogs). She loves meeting new people and lit up like a Christmas tree when our 5 year old neighbor girl came over to talk to her. I mentioned she will try to get into a low trash can. She will also stick her head into a purse or other bag to see what you have. She has even stuck her head down a v-neck shirt I was wearing. She is curious and affectionate. She is a kisser and will sneak her tongue up your nose or in your ear if she can. She is a silly lovebug who just wasn't introduced to other dogs when she was younger. Unfortunately her previous owner lost her business and her home and had to move in with a friend who had other dogs. They were not accepting of Zoey and fights were breaking out. Zoey and her owner were in the home for 6 months and tried to keep Zoey separate from the other dogs. Zoey was kept in a bedroom and even gained from 13.5 to 16.5 lbs. within 4 months. She needs to get that weight off quickly as it is bad for Poodle legs. They are prone to a condition called Luxating Patella in which knee caps can pop out of joint due to the excess weight. She has had her knee cap pop out and then back in place momentarily afterwards. Losing weight will correct this problem. If she continues to remain heavy she may need surgery to correct the knee cap. (We have this same issue with our little boy.)
