About Parakeet

Adoption Fee: $25
Pet Bird
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

For those just interested in basics: Rehoming a 2 year old budgie, as well as selling her Hampton Deluxe Breeder Cage, toys, and other decorations for $175. $100 for the cage, 25$ for toys and accouterments, 25$ to rehome her. 25$ is okay if you just want the bird by herself, but obviously you can't take the cage and not the bird. I would ask anyone adopting her have other birds around (hence the 'lonely' part). Cage is in good shape. No stand, I keep it on an old desk. Contact me via email if interested/need any extra info. For those interested in more specifics: I got a bird while on break from school in 2015. I trained him and he was happy, but when school started again he was lonely, so I bought him a friend to keep him company while I was at school. Things were good until last fall (2017) when I came home to find him dead (got his wing trapped in the grate). Now the second bird, which I bought to keep him company, is alone. Initially I planned to replace him with one or more other birds, but I'm getting to a juncture of my life where I'll be going away to university within a year, and aim to join the Peace Corps after that, so I'm in no position to start taking care of more animals. She's been really lonely, as the title suggests, sitting by the window and chirping away to the birds outside. As much as it pains me, my keeping her is unhealthy for the both of us. In terms of temperament, she's rather skittish. I trained the original bird decently, and so the second mostly trusted me by proxy. With the death of the first bird, however, she's been very anxious whenever I try to interact with her. Thus, I would ask anyone who takes her be familiar with birds and/or have (friendly) birds of their own. I can keep her fed and healthy - the reason I'm selling her is because she's getting more and more miserable here by herself. If any shelters are interested, that would be great, but if there are any around here I haven't heard about them. She is healthy. I feed her seeds and pellets, with the occasional millet sprig or celery leaf. Her name is Obi-Wan. I thought she was a boy when I first named her. She doesn't respond to it though, just the usual 'little birdy' stuff, so you can call her whatever you want. The cage itself is in good shape. Various beads, a swing, and 2 shelters hung from the top. Adjustable perches. It is a breeder cage, but I never used it for that purpose. A grate can be slid down the middle to separate it into two cages of half the size, which I did when the two were still getting to know each other. The slide for one of the bottom trays is slightly bent, but doesn't inhibit the use of the tray, it just needs a little finagling. Overall, my main priority is that she find a good home, so price is negotiable, especially if you can prove you've got other birds, experience to help her, and/or work at a shelter for birds like her.
