About BELLE-2

German Shepherd mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

BELLE-2 was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. Belle-2 is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 13 May 2017. Belle-2 has been listed as a German Shepherd Dog mix, however, we are not able to say for sure what breed she is, it is up to you to look at her pictures and decide what you think she looks like. Belle-2 had been an owner surrender back to the shelter she was saved from because the family said that their other dog didn't like her. When Belle-2 arrived at the rescue she was extremely scared and had an issue with anything to do with her neck, to the point where I had to keep a leash on her. She was snappy, but not aggressive, it was very much fearful. I brought her over to the house instead of having her in the kennels so that I could work with her. After a few days she had learned that it was ok and I could reach down and take the leash off and put it on, but I would still advise that people are cautious when going near her neck until she trusts them. I have no idea what happened to her, but there does seem to be some kind of abuse that has happened. After a few weeks, Belle-2 has settled down and really decompressed, she is responsive as when she jumps on the sofa (in my space) I can tell her to get down and she will jump down. She is great playing with the other dogs and enjoys to go outside. She will bark when she hears noises, but does come in when called. She is very affectionate and loving and if not lying by side on the sofa she will be at my feet. She is smart and she is agile and will jump up on the counter to explore. She is still very puppy and so that guidance and training is a must. Belle-2 does use the dog door to go out to do her business or enjoy the fresh air in her run. I do not know if she would let you know she needs to go out since she has 24/7 access to the outside, but she is extremely smart and do not think it would take long to learn. Belle-2 is great with other dogs and is happy to run around chasing and wrestling. She has not shown any sign of aggression at all. She has a lot of energy and so she will need an active family. Someone who understands the importance of mental stimulation as well as physical exercise. I have not seen her with children, but her demeanor and personality I have no doubt that she would be great with them and a lot of fun too. She needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with her themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. Belle-2 rides good in the car. She is used to being with other dogs so a family with another dog would be great, however, if that is not the case, then play-dates with other dogs would be extremely beneficial for her. We do not have cats or livestock at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would be near or around them. As with all rescue's she needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with her themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. Belle-2 needs an active family and one that will keep her mind stimulated and challenged. Lots of hikes and adventures, training tricks, or agility, dock diving or other fun, active, stimulating activities would be perfect for this girl. We do not have cats at the rescue so we cannot say how she would be around them, however, I am not sure I would trust her with them since she has a high working drive. She is great with humans and I believe would be great with children, I am sure they could keep each other entertained for many hours. 'We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. BELLE-2 is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550
