I am reaching out to you today in regards to a German Shepard (Mix ?) dog by the name of Harley. We brought him into our home from someone we knew only 9 days ago. He has been fine with us in the home behaving normally. Playing with his favorite toy, loves belly rubs, knows commands for treats but would benefit from more training. He follows my husband around like a shadow. All is well until people come to the home. He has gone after 2 people without warning or we did not recognize his posture. The vet said to keep away from children and employ an animal behaviorist to figure out his triggers and then keep him away from those triggers. The previous owner also said he nipped at a child last year. I am not sure if the child was poking at him or this was the beginning of his unwanted behavior. Our home is not set up to accommodate a dog with these issues. We do not have a fenced area and the bike path is directly in front of our home. I am concerned if he should accidentally get out. I believe he would make a good pet for the right person. I am hoping to connect with someone who is versed in such behavior and would like to take him as he cannot stay here and the alternative is awful.
