About ELSA

Adoption Fee: $150.00
Whippet / Pit Bull
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

ELSA is a 4 1/2 year old Whippet/Boxer/Pit mix with a long lean body and the build of a racehorse. She weighs a muscular 43 lbs and won't get any heavier no matter how much we feed her. She's super fast and hyper-vigilant - always looking for something to chase. She is great with all adults and older children - never shown any aggression to humans, but will jump in excitement and must be restrained around the elderly and small kids so she doesn't accidentally knock them down. She is somewhat dominant in personality to other dogs her size or larger unless they exhibit more dominance - at which point we separate them. Our 3 house cats roamed around her with no threat but occasional play type lunges at them, our 19 year old declawed cat used to rub up to her and sleep on her with no threat. I would be cautious with really small dogs; small wildlife, small pets no good. She killed a wild squirrel while she was on a long tie out. I would recommend only 10 year old or older children, medium dogs, cats by individual basis depending on temperament. Our cats are older and mellow. The reason I am considering adoption for her: This dog has serious skin issues that no matter what I do to try to correct them, they come back. Changed her diet, she was on medication, medicated shampoos, the issues come back. I can't afford to do all the tests at the vet. I can't buy an expensive food. My husband lost his job and I can't see the animal suffer because I can't afford the vet. We've had Elsa since she was 4/5 months old adopted from Orange County Animal Control. I want her to stay with us but I can't let the dog suffer because I need help. If help means someone can help her, I'm sadly okay with it. We love her and won't put her down for this skin issue. Advice to fix it or a free clinic? That's great. A home that can help her - that's great, too. Thank you. EDIT: I realized after I posted this picture all you can see is her head. Yes, Elsa has a big old sledgehammer Pit/Boxer head. But it's stuck on the end of a really long neck on a Whippet/Greyhound body with the long legs, arched spine/long curved tail, webbed fingerlike toes. Vet says her predominant breed is Whippet. That explains the squirrel obsession. LOL
