About Monkey

We'd like to introduce you to a special shelter guest--Monkey! Monkey is a senior lady, who is about 9-10 years old weighing about 60 pounds . She is friendly to all she meets and has lived with dogs and cats before. She is also friendly and gentle with children. She is housebroken and has great manners. She loves to go on walks, and has lovely leash skills. Seem too good to be true?? No way--she's available for adoption at the shelter! Monkey does have a special need: Monkey tested positive for heartworm disease. She had a low result for her test and is showing no signs that the worms are affecting her yet. Because of her age, Monkey is not a candidate for the typical treatment of the worms. Unfortunately, even if the worms are not affecting her, she is serving as a reservoir for mosquitoes to bite her and then possibly infect another dog. Fear not: we have a plan! Working with our veterinarian, Monkey will be able to undergo a treatment for heartworm that will prevent her from spreading the parasite and will kill her existing worms, slowly! And it won't prevent her from being ready to go to her new home. AND, it's super easy and affordable! It's just some daily oral pills for a short period and a chewy every two weeks--which will be sent home with her at the time of her adoption. Easy peasy! We think this sweet older gal deserves a chance to live out her life happily in a home. Can you help us find that right home?
