About Ginnie

Our lovely Ginnie could not get out of her own way in the NYC ACC shelter environment. She pitched such a fuss that she earned herself a free ride to the euthanasia list, where she accidentally caught our eye. We were gobsmacked that such a gorgeous dog could be so easily disposed of, and so we jumped into action to see if we could convince Ginnie that humanity had some redeeming qualities. Ginnie is one of those odd gambles in which both sides win big! She has gladly dropped all her defenses, and has morphed into an affectionate, loving girl. We acknowledge that sometimes the shelter environment brings out the worst fight or flight responses in dogs, and our mission is to give them a fair chance to show their true colors. Ginnie appears to be primarily a stunning Beagle, with a hefty dose of tricolor Cardigan Corgi. She is a substantial medium sized dog at 27 pounds, slightly smaller than a breed standard Corgi. Ginnie's floppy ears are shorter than Beagle breed standard, and likely reflects her breed mix. Ginnie is at an ideal lean body weight, and her tricolor coat is short and requires minimal grooming. She has a lean, leggy physique, with a proud stance, and all of the wonderful attributes of a Scent Hound, mixed with the tenacity of a Herder. Ginnie would be the ideal choice for an active single or couple, who's lifestyle allows for Ginnie to participate front and center. Although she was a city stray, and we have no history on her former home, it seems to us that Ginnie would thrive in a calm laid-back home, that offers her a lot of opportunity for exercise and focused obedience work. We sense some insecurity in Ginnie's delicate nature. We have focussed on confidence building by activating her Scent Hound instincts. She enjoys leisurely walks where she can take in nature, but she can quickly adapt to a jogging pace. Ginnie is an active dog who needs mental and physical stimulation. She has moderate energy, and would make a great walking or running companion. She would be a great addition to camping or hiking trips. The time she spends outdoors seems to thrill her. Ginnie has progressed nicely on her obedience training, and she has the potential to reach Canine Good Citizen certification. She has already passed many of the tests and and has learned her basic obedience sequence. Ginnie is very treat motivated and easy to train. She may become occasionally distracted by the random scents of nature, but she redirects nicely and seems to enjoy her training sessions. Ongoing focus on obedience training will provide Ginnie leadership and mental stimulation that she needs to thrive. Ginnie has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained, but adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. Ginnie is in good health and has recently been spayed She has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick.
