About Delilah

Adoption Fee: $350.00
Doberman Pinscher / German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Our lovely Delilah has a look so spectacular, that we wouldn't be surprised to see this Doberman-Shepherd mix morph into the next 'Designer Breed.' She has spot on, classic Doberman black and tan colors, with prominent white markings, and a tuxedo pattern on her chest. She has an elegant stance that screams DIVA, but her sweet demeanor invites hugs and kisses. Delilah came to us recently from an overcrowded Animal Control Facility, after her owners dumped her without much explanation. Their description of Delilah sounds like a dog with an ideal temperament, who has not been properly shepherded through the puppy to adult transition. It looks like Delilah was adopted recently from NYCACC, and returned in short order, after adopters realized that their lifestyle didn't allow for adequate exercise and training. Sadly, Delilah found herself homeless again, and the situation reeks of Human cluelessness. It's surprising how many people underestimate the care and attention that a Rescue dog requires. Delilah had the bad luck to catch the shelter kennel cough while she was in NYCACC, and was rerouted to us, so that we could restore her health and find her forever home. Delilah has been a very gracious house guest, and has charmed absolutely everyone she's met. Delilah is now a young, three year old, adult dog, and seems somewhat behind the learning curve in manners and obedience training. We have awakened Delila's puppy mojo, after a period of shelter depression, and she has blossomed beautifully. She has an outgoing and friendly personality, tinged with puppy exuberance. She seems to have taken the whole rescue hullabaloo in stride and is unfazed by the chaos that would have unhinged dogs of lesser spirit. Delilah has a nice confidence level and genuinely appreciates human attention. Delilah would be a good family dog, because she's not one to play favorites and leave one family member excluded from her affections. In fact, she really knows how to work a room. She will give each family member the warmth and love that they hope to receive from adding a dog into the family matrix. Delilah would be fine in a home with older children, or she could join a multi-dog home, as she has generally respectful manners within a dog pack. Delilah could also join the active adult home of a single or couple who enjoy a vibrant companion. She is not a clingy dog, but she definitely likes to be in close proximity to her people. She's definitely not a Wallflower, who stays out of the action. She is a medium-sized dog, at 50 pounds, and would make a superb walking or hiking buddy. She walks well on lead, and will easily adjust her pace to her handler's. Delilah has a moderate energy level and will require at least one or two brisk leash walks a day, but then she likes to relax and be with her people. Delilah has decent house manners for a young adult, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect the occasional accident as she transitions to a new home. Delilah is in excellent health, and is spayed. She is vaccinated for rabies, distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza coronavirus, canine influenza, and bordatella. She has been dewormed, and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
