About Chewy

Chewy is an 8 year old 7.8 pound little Yorkie guy. Sweet Chewy is being fostered in Zyphyrhills, FL. UPDATED BIO 05/02/2018: Little Chewy has been in his foster home since 02/15/2018 and we are all baffled as to why this little sweetheart of a doggie hasn't been scooped up yet. Foster Mom says that he is very lovable and friendly and especially loves to be cuddled and have his belly rubbed. Chewy enjoys being with people. He also gets along with the other dogs and cats in his foster home, but he especially craves his individual attention. Chewy does not enjoy being walked on a leash, so a fenced-in yard is a must so that he has outdoor time and is able to experience the wonders of nature. His social skills still need a bit of work when outside - when he sees other dogs he has a tendency to run up to them, sometimes causing them to snap at him. Chewy is mostly house-trained, but he hasn't yet mastered the skill of letting his people know he needs to go out yet. His foster parents have him on a schedule so when taken out at his scheduled times, he will gladly do his business outside. When left alone at home and at bedtime, a bellyband will keep any accidents from happening. He rides in the car just fine, as long as he doesn't eat before going for a car ride. Chewy's perfect furever home would be with a retired or stay-at-home person or couple that have the time to hang out with him in the yard to give him the adequate time he needs to enjoy the outdoors and to do his business. Chewy gets along with older children as long as they are mature enough to know how to play with him. PLEASE NOTE: Due to his small size, Chewy can only be placed in a home with children 12 y/o or older. UPDATED BIO 04/09/2018: Chewy is adjusting well in his foster home and enjoys spending time with his foster parents. He is a real sweetheart and continues to crave attention from his humans. Because he requires a lot of one-on-one attention, Foster Mom feels that he would appreciate being the only pet in the home. Chewy seems to get along with the other dogs and cats in his foster home, but would prefer not having to share the love. Chewy's foster parents continue to work with him on housetraining - Foster Mom says that she feels he may never have been taken outside since he wasn't accustomed to the feeling of grass under his feet. He will need a patient forever home where they will allow Chewy time to build up his confidence so that he understands he needs to do his business outdoors. Because Chewy doesn't enjoy his outdoor time, it is felt that he was mostly kept either in a crate or in the house without being able to experience the wonders of nature. Chewy gets along with older children as long as they are mature enough to know how to play with him. PLEASE NOTE: Due to his small size, Chewy can only be placed in a home with children 12 y/o or older. His social skills need a bit of work when outside - when he sees other dogs he is not familiar with, he has a tendency to want to run up to them, sometimes causing them to snap at him. Chewy's perfect furever home would be with a retired or stay-at-home person or couple; and it would be a BONUS if they had a fenced backyard. UPDATED BIO 02/26/2018: Chewy is such a sweetheart; he is friendly and loveable. According to his foster mom, Chewy craves attention, loves to cuddle with his foster parents, and loves to have his belly rubbed. Chewy does not do well on a leash ,so going for walks does not interest him. At this time, he is not considered to be house-trained and is hit-and-miss with using a pee-pee pad. When left alone and at bedtime he does wear a bellyband to keep him from having accidents in the home. Foster Mom has observed that Chewy is timid and shies away from going outside to do his business. His foster parents are working with him to get him comfortable being outside so that he is confident when outdoors and learn that is where he is supposed to do his business. Chewy gets along with older children as long as they are mature enough to know how to play with him.
